If you count the $12 million earned at Tuesday's midnight shows, Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix now has $44 million in the bank. It earned $32 million yesterday, taking in $10,555 per screen in 4200 situations. Anyone who sits through this very dull film and goes "wow...if only more films could me like this one!" is suffering from a lack of cinematic experience. If you go to it and shrug and say "okay, not bad...I had to go because I love the books," etc., then fine. But you can't be over the moon about the film itself. Well, you can...but you have to shut up about it.

The new tracking shows Hairspray is 88 gernal awarness, 31 definite interest with 12% definitely not interested and 5% first choice...decent, not tremendous. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is at 73, 39 and 7. I Know Who Killed Me, the Lindsay Lohan thriller, is at 28, 13 and nothing. No Reservations (opening 7.27) is at 44, 21 and 1....dead. The Simpsons movie is looking pretty good -- 80, 41 and 8. Ditto The Bourne Ultimatum (opening 8.3) at 64, 47 and 6.

While a good entry to the series, I doubt it would send anyone over the moon. That being said, I do think there were quite a few very cool moments...I really thought the scene with Luna and Harry with the Thestrals in the forest was quite beautiful.
I am smart enough to divorce the books from the films. I have a greater affinity for the books than the films, and I'd be surprised to find anyone who doesn't feel the same way.

Same with Transformers. I want to see Director's Cuts come out on DVD shorter, with tighter stories and fewer endings. "The pared down version, not the bloated one you saw in theatres."

In my experience, two types of people make this kind of comment: moderately well educated narrow-minded elitists and wannabe moderately well educated narrow-minded elitists.

So, 12 minus 8 equals 4. I'm no Hollywood insider (just an opininated moviegoer) but I think 12 is substantially more than 8 for a midnight showing, as opposed to Bay's "early" screenings, which lasted from 8PM til sunup. And 44 million is certainy more than 31 million, which was what Bay's shitstorm of a flick pulled in it's first 30 hours. So, Harry Potter, with less of a budget, less CGI, and nowhere near the marketing machine, is outdoing Bay's hyper-powered over-hyped turd? I thought GayBay's fans were so sure this wouldn't happen.
And who was that saying Bayformers would be "The Biggest Movie of the Summer?" I think I'll repeat my earlier retort. Bay's latest cow-dropping won't even be the biggest movie of the month. The upcoming release of the last HP book is helping boost interest, which I also predicted, and people are going to see this film in droves, and it will have legs that Bayformers could only dream about.

I guess everyone with a brain feels now that Bayformers and the retarded masses who drooled on themselves to see it are gone, it's finally safe for the people with an I.Q. above room-temperature to set foot back in the theaters and for real filmamkers to put their work in the box-office.
And the drooling GayBay fans who said such genius as "The Godfather was lousy, Transformers is a great movie!" Well, it back to your daily valium regiment and reruns of MTV and Nickelodeon...until Bay makes his next turd.

Why, because the film contains more intimate character moments and development instead of constant action?

You're starting to sound like the knuckle-draggers you deride so much, Wells. And I usually have great respect for you, but that comment shows a lack of understanding on your part.

You didn't even sit through the entire film. You're in no position to judge it.

I HAVEN'T read any of the books (my wife and son have) but I've seen all the films (it's what we call "family time"). Thought the first two were WEAK, thought the third was far superior, the fourth slightly less so, and would say that this latest ranks just below Azkaban.

It's certainly the most adult and the most dark; it's the first one to really let the magic rip (there's a real badass wizard fight at the end) and I think it's the first one that feels, for lack of a better word, "comfortable" -- as in, the characters finally come across as grounded in their phony-ass fantasy world.

I wouldn't recommend it as anyone's first Potter film (you'd be lost) but if you've seen a few of the others and enjoyed them, you'll undoubtedly enjoy this one, too.

I haven't seen Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. However, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was pretty enjoyable. I think maybe it's the Anglophile in me - I can't really not enjoy a movie that contains Imelda Staunton, Michael Gambon, Ralph Fiennes, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Emma Thompson, Gary Oldman, Brendan Gleeson, Helena Bonham-Carter, David Thewlis, Julie Walters, Richard Griffiths, and Fiona Shaw, now can I? Granted, some of the aforementioned have about 10 seconds of screen time, but still! If they could have somehow squeezed Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, and Ian McKellen into the cast, it would have been like a time capsule.
