No-work week

Some people are actually working today and tomorrow, but virtually everyone I know will be out of the office for five days straight starting on Wednesday. I wouldn't drive anywhere during this 4th of July getaway period if you held a gun to my head. Okay, I might go hiking in Lone Pine, but no daytime driving. Holidays are hell. When the going gets easy, the tough sit down at their desks and catch up on their bookkeeping. Face it -- it's going to be a light week.

I have an idea, Jeff; post a new, honest, full-fledged review of a film. Any film. Some you actually WANT to write about. Don't link to what anyone else has written, don't quote anyone, and don't rely on pictures.

Get back to your roots, man. Seriously, stop being so pissed off at everything and find joy once more.

I still enjoy Jeff's writing, but now that you mention it, it does seem like he has morphed a little bit in attitude and topics of choice since the Mr. Showbiz days. It'd be interesting to go back and read some of the old columns, because although it's a gradual shift that I can't quite identify, it is perceptible.

Of course, I've certainly changed since the Mr. Showbiz days. Who hasn't?

Jeff's changed 'cause of Bush, obviously. I mean, who were the angriest, most pissed off, vitriolic people of the 90's? Conservatives and Republicans, of course. This decade has just been flipped, that's all. Sure, the activists/extreme figures (Michael Moore, Ann Coulter) are always out and loud no matter the situation, but the run-of-the-mill citizen is relatively complacent and happy when their guy's on top. The Republican congressmen who seem so tired and lost now are the same ones who had messianic energy and zeal to destroy a Presidency just 10 years ago. That energy is now with the Left. That kind of stuff trickles down to the hoi polloi.

Hating the powers-that-be (of which the President is the most visible figure) pretty much infuses your entire life with anger and pissed-off vigor.
