Dogs didn't kill Rhames assistant

It turns out that the Ving Rhames assistant who was found dead somewhere on Rhames' property on 8.3, reportedly from what appeared to be wounds from two of the actor's mastiff dogs, wasn't killed by the hounds after all. And yet no one can figure exactly what happened. The poor guy's name was Jacob Adams, he was 40 years old, and West Hollywood Police Lt. Ray Lombardo is describing the cause of his death as "undetermined." I still think that anyone who owns a pack of snarly scary dogs is expressing something about who they are deep down, so I'm not modifying that piece that I wrote about this incident on 8.8.

The dogs are reportedly friendly. He probably suffered some sort of physical thing that rarely happens, and the dogs tried to get him up.
See? I could be a screenwriter too!
Seriously, it's a sad situation. I'm sure Rhames feels terrible enough. Let it alone.

I've thought the story was hinky from the start. The story was the man was in charge of feeding the dogs. Even snarly aggressive dogs DO NOT attack the person who feeds them, it just. does. not. happen.

Geez, it wasn't that long ago Jeff was telling us all that Rhames dogs DID kill the guy. Now he finally admits, alomst ten days after it was widely well-known, the dogs didn't kill the guy.

What is with the skinny, ignorant white guys who simply can't resist saying something negative about wealthy black guys?

I'm still trying to figure out why they used the rather militant still of Rhames from Dawn of the Dead in the latest story. I don't know whether to be impressed or appalled.

Rich - according to the article the dude acted in Dawn of the Dead. They could have also used a Kojak picture, I guess but DotD was shot in Toronto, Adams lived near Toronto before moving in with Rhames and the article is from a Toronto paper so there is some logic to it. Probably just the first file photo that came up.

None of this explains why rich black men like dangerous dogs and it doesn't explain why The Departed would skip playing at the Toronto Film F estival but, still...

I guess the Toronto connection makes the photo make a little more sense. But, y'know, in DotD, Rhames actually played a cop. Instead of showing that, they chose a still from the end of the film, where he's dressed in a black leather vest, a black shirt and a black skullcap/doo-rag. In the context of the story, that choice is, shall we say, interesting.

As usual, political correctness blinders keep everyone on these boards from getting even close to the real issue here.

The issue is class, yes. It's all about class. Lower-classes tend...TEND...to engage in more "aggressive" hobbies, shall we say, be it dogfighting, cockfighting in Latin America, hunting, etc. This has very little, if anything, to do with race. Yes, dogfighting SPECIFICALLY may be more of a "black/hiphop" cultural thing (just like hunting is overwhelmingly white), but I think the trend towards aggressive pasttimes that offend PETA is more about class.

Race DOES, however, enter into this, but in a backdoor manner. It is not of little importance that it's been black athletes and cultural figures themselves who have been the ones to first step up to casually defend Vick. The idea being, of course, that THEY feel like this is just another example of poor black men getting picked on by "the man" (PETA adherents don't usually think of themselves as "the man", but I'm sure black athletes in Atlanta do).

Political correctness, especially in the nineties, had such an overwhelming and corrosive nature that you can see it's literally kneejerk for young black men to complain that hiphop culture is "misunderstood" or "targeted" or "just reflecting reality" or "what's the big deal?". I think what's happening here is that PC isn't quite as strong as it used to be, and more people are willing to call bullshit (especially because PETA, the worlds most antagonistic people, don't give a shit what race you are), and that's kind of throwing the hip-hop faction of young black men for a loop. Even media enablers aren't backing them on this one.
