Mafioso (The Criterion Collection, 3.18.2008) Nino Badalamenti is a supervisor in a car manufacturing plant who hasn't taken a vacation in over two years. On his way out the door to visit his beloved childhood hometown of Sicily -- with his blonde wife and daughters -- Nino is handed a package by his boss and asked to deliver it to a powerful and influential Sicilian gangster named Don Vincenzo. Once in Sicily, Nino has a hoot seeing friends and family, but his wife has trouble fitting in and is unfairly dismissed as a snob by Nino's family. Even more worrisome, Nino finds himself entangled in an intricate web of secret mafioso dealings and is eventually sent on an unexpectedly... elaborate errand. (continued)

"Putting on the Ritz" mp3

Here's an mp3 of the "Puttin' on the Ritz" number from the Young Frankenstein musical, presumably recorded in Seattle. At first it sounds exactly like the the same bit 1974 Mel Brooks film, then it expands all to hell. I don't mean in a bad way -- I mean extensively.

I saw this two weeks ago up in Seattle. It was pretty good. Not as good as Producers or Spamelot, but still very funny. The numbers aren't nearly as memorable (this song being one of the few exceptions). It felt a little like the actors were trying to hold on to the presence of the actors who played the roles in the movie, with the exception of Roger Bart in the Gene Wilder role. Still, not a bad time in the least. And the set design is pretty terrific.

Where is this picture from?

Yeah, you might want to disclaim that it's NOT a picture from the Brooks show.

Saw this during the tryout also. A good night out - especially at the Seattle, and not Broadway, ticket prices. "Puttin' on the Ritz" is easily the show's high point.

I just have to say that thank god this isn't the fourth piece in a row about a Broadway show or a musical from a blogger who insists that he doesn't have a particular fondness for musicals.

Yeah, what fraternity show is this picture from? My guess is the University of Missouri.
