Warner Independent on the lot

Outside the headquarters of Warner Independent on Warner Bros. lot -- Thursday, 10.24.06, 9:55 pm -- after last night's screening of Michael Clayton. Afterward I had a polite argument with Variety's Robert Koehler about In The Valley of Elah while standing in the parking lot. A Warner Bros. security guard walked up after twelve or fifteen minutes of discourse and asked us to leave.

Great shot. Probably not as polite as you're letting on, but you're lucky it wasn't 3 a.m. and the guard wasn't puking and somebody's clothes weren't strewn about the fountain.

Well, I don't see a chalk outline on the ground, or yellow ribbon anywhere, so I assume the argument was peacefully resolved.

The argument had a brief run, didn't make much of an impact, and will be resolved in ancillary venues.

Nice picture. Reminds me how much stronger Vantage's lineup is.

Saw "Elah" last night, and yes, it's definitely a movie that's going to spark "polite arguments."

Basically, whatever you think of the film's final image is what you'll think of this film as a whole. For me, all I could do was shake my head in disbelief - the shot was a direct insult to the audience's intelligence.

You're not, but I want to savor that sickly sweetness of pure Haggis as freshly as possible.

Wells to jeffmcm: It's not sickly and sweet, and you're a jerk for passing this along sight unseen. And if you see it in September and still say this, you're still a jerk. The Haggis haters are a bunch of diseased obsessives.

Jeff! Jeffrey! Jerrerino! Calm down, man. Jeffmcm would never prematurely pass judgment on, or make snide comments about, a movie he hasn't seen. That's why he feels he can criticize people who do make such comments. I mean, what, are you calling one of your favorite posters a hypocrite? Gosh, I'm shocked -- shocked, I say! -- to see you making such a statement. Where's the love?

Going slightly off-track:
In the recent EW issue, Haggis said that Tommy Lee Jones' role was offered to Clint Eastwood--who turned it down saying he didn't want to act anymore.

I'm trying to parse this--does this mean that Clint's final performance as an actor was MILLION DOLLAR BABY or that he just can't conceive of being a mere actor in someone else's film?
