Mafioso (The Criterion Collection, 3.18.2008) Nino Badalamenti is a supervisor in a car manufacturing plant who hasn't taken a vacation in over two years. On his way out the door to visit his beloved childhood hometown of Sicily -- with his blonde wife and daughters -- Nino is handed a package by his boss and asked to deliver it to a powerful and influential Sicilian gangster named Don Vincenzo. Once in Sicily, Nino has a hoot seeing friends and family, but his wife has trouble fitting in and is unfairly dismissed as a snob by Nino's family. Even more worrisome, Nino finds himself entangled in an intricate web of secret mafioso dealings and is eventually sent on an unexpectedly... elaborate errand. (continued)

"Body of Lies" shot

Leonardo DiCaprio as "Roger Ferris" and an obviously chunky Russell Crowe as "Ed Hoffman" during filming of Ridley Scott's Body of Lies (Warner Bros.), a Middle East drama that's been scripted by The Departed's William Monahan. It's about Ferris being after Suleiman, a Muslim terrorist behind a series of car bombings. The title refers to a complex scheme instigated by Ferris in which false information is fed to the bad guys via a dead body of a decoy agent.

Somebody sent me a cpy of the script last spring and now I can't find it. Anyone have a digital copy?

Crowe appears to be channeling J T Walsh in that shot. I like it.

You beat me to it Budd, Crowe looks just like the late and great JT Walsh in that pic.

More Mid-east dramas? I haven't even seen the ones coming out this fall and already I'm tired of 'em. *sighs*

So is anyone in this movie besides DiCaprio and Crowe? I just find it so wierd that a major large scale film has been filming for a couple of weeks, yet no cast outside of these two has been announced.

This is as good a place as any to say I saw THE KINGDOM tonight and really enjoyed it. A solid A- actioner with more on its mind than most. Ashraf Barhom should be on anyone's list for a Best Supporting Actor nod. He was like a Saudi Sonny Grasso.

This sounds like a repurposing of THE MAN WHO NEVER WAS with Clifton Webb.

I have to say at least Wells isn't sexist with his body image obsessions. He lets men and women have it equally.

Ok BurmaShave, you've officially sold me on The Kingdom. If it sucks when I see it tomorrow morning...well, let's just say you're off the Kennedy Christmas card list.

No... Crowe looks like Ed Hoffman as depicted in the book Body of Lies. I've read it. His lack of vanity and his willingness to assume what ever characteristics a role asks of him is why Crowe is one of the greatest actors working today.

He's a chameleon who never repeats himself. From Maximus to mathematician John Nash, to bpxer Jimmy Braddock, to outlaw Ben Wade, to Ed Hoffman... the only thing that ties these roles together is a genius at work.
