Gil Cates has been hired for his 14th stint as the Oscar telecast producer, and God help us all. Once again the been-around- forever cabal has reasserted and triumphed. The Academy Awards show will broadcast from the Kodak Theatre on 2.24.08.

i could care less who "produces" the show....as long as the nominees are deserving (for once) I will be happy.

i shouldnt have said i don't care who produces the show. i would definitely be down for something new out of the show. i just want to actually like the nominees and genuinely care about who wins. last year, for me at least, it was a thrill to see the deaparted win for pic and director. not that i thought it was the best film of the year, but I did love it and it was all about Martin Scorsese. I was excited when he won. It was a cool feeling. I'd like to have that each year when watching the show.

What about the previous 13 has made someone think, "You know, I want to see that again."

Last year's Oscars just won two Emmys. Every year the Emmys lavish awards on this poorly run show. Are TV people so degraded that they feel the need to bow and scrape at the feet of the movie people?

After two edgy misfires (Rock, Stewart) and an underrated change of pace (DeGeneres), there is only one hosting option for this one- He may be square, he may be borscht, he may be unhip, but they need to get Billy Crystal back for the 80th. It's just the right thing to do.

Meh. I used to be a die-hard Oscar watcher until, due to circumstances, I missed the broadcast a couple years ago -- and haven't been back since. Reading who won the next day is fine by me.

make the show about movies -- not the celebrity comedy host d'jour.
and show more film clips! unique ones to actually highlight the work being nominated.
and get jerry lewis back!
