There's a fairly legit-looking full trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood (Paramount Vantage, 12.26) on MySpace.com. They're calling it an exclusive. If it's not an official trailer, it's a pretty good rip-off of one by somebody with talent and access to the materials. Love watching Daniel Day Lewis in every clip...an endlessly fascinating actor. You can tell Paul Dano, portraying a religious wackjob type, is going to be intense, but then he always is.

According to the end credits, it seems Anderson's switched composers from Jon Brion to Jonny Greenwood, Radiohead's lead guitarist.
Haven't seen this reported before...

Is it just me or does Day Lewis seem to be channeling John Huston in this performance? Either way, looks good and reminds me also a bit of his Bill the Butcher work as well. Paul Dano also looks awards worthy. Interesting stuff.

At the Telluride tribute, the last clip they showed of Daniel Day Lewis was a lengthy Bill the Butcher scene, followed by an interview and then the 20 minutes of TWBB. And yeah, he does seem a bit like a more buttoned down and morally ambiguous Bill. Which is not to say that there's substantial overlap between the characters, but it's fun to see him playing somebody so imposing again.
The score they had on that Telluride reel sure sounded like Jon Brion to me. I'd be surprised if Radiohead's guitarist is able to write orchestration like that. But maybe it was a temp track.
By the way, I'd say about 70% of the footage in this trailer is from that Telluride third reel... though not the oil gushing footage, or Daniel Day Lewis being put through the ringer in church (can't wait to see how he gets to that point).

I embedded it into my MySpace page and, oddly enough, as of 8 p.m. EST, it was still available. It's between the Spoon video and the G.I. Joe PSA.

I wouldn't. Greenwood's composed for orchestra before.

Indeed he has, as another friend informs me that "jonny greenwood has done a bunch of avant-classical instrumental score-y stuff in the past, and it has been pretty awesome." I just really haven't kept up on my Radiohead, obviously. So I guess what I heard on that reel really was him. And it was damned impressive.

Good to hear, Chris. I adore Brion, but if Anderson is serious about breaking with the aesthetic of his previous movies, hiring a new composer is a must.

They showed the trailer before 3:10 to Yuma today, and it does look really good. And I didn't think of it at the time, but you're right, austin, that Day-Lewis seems to be going for a Huston vibe, if the trailer is any indication.

"Coming Soon" did have both the teaser and the trailer up for a while, but apparently "Blood" is flowing.
Good to know it's in front of the "3:10."
Hey, Lipranzer, is there any nudity in "3:10" ?
And if so, did you happen to snap it with your cell phone camera?
And if so, can ya send me some pix, eh there ol' boy ol' pal? On the slyski?

As I said earlier in the TWBB poster thread, I really like the trailer, though I warn you all that it played in front of a packed house for 3:10 to Yuma tonight in Manhattan to no audience reaction whatsoever.

You know, some of you are such pathetic, rabid and wholly indescriminate PTA followers you make Uwe Boll's fans look like intelligentsia by comparison. If I were Anderson I'd be pretty embarrassed, even ashamed, to have such lemmings as fans. If you want to drink PTA's urine and call it champagne, knock yourself out. God forbid you should think for yourselves. I thought this full trailer was excellent and said so in another talkback long before this one was even started, so go screw yourselves.

For the time being at least.
It's "fullscreen," but it runs.
Ian, your dislike for Anderson's films has been thoroughly discussed, largely because you keep bringing it up. And I'm glad you like the trailer. Now why don't you have the courage of your convictions and leave it at that? You can't stoke the fire *and* complain about the heat, too.
