It'll be neck-and-neck between Resident Evil: Extinction and Good Luck, Chuck for the #1 spot this weekend -- the horror flick expected to rule on Friday night but probably fated to slip on Saturday (as almost all sequels do) with Chuck (which isn't expected to enjoy great word-of-mouth) moving ahead. No age and quadrant breakdowns, but Evil is currently at 79 general, 45 definite awareness and 27 first choice and Chuck is at 83, 46 and 23.
Eastern Promises -- 38, 28, 5. Sidney White -- 45,38 and 9. Feast of Love -- 37, 29 and 1. The Game Plan (a Rock comedy that's sneaking this weekend) -- 58, 40 and 8. The Kingdom (opening a week from tomorrow) is at 70, 43 and 7. The Heartbreak Kid -- 63, 31 and 3. Elizabeth: The Golden Age -- 53, 27 and 4... Michael Clayton (10.5 limited, 10.12 wide-ish) -- 37, 29 and 1. Postal -- 20, 30 and 0. Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? -- 35, 48 and 3. We Own The Night (opening against Michael Clayton on 10.212) -- 46, 38 and 3....not bad at this stage.

Just like how 3:10 TO YUMA and THE BRAVE ONE were both going to make it to 20 million? My bet is one of these films flops, relatively. Everytime I see Dane Cook on one of the ads I think "Hey it's cool the T-Rex from JURASSIC PARK is working again". Apparently the ladies like him though, or at least the frat boys.

"Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?"
Uh, I guess because Mr Perry needed a beard.

There are people who want to see Good Luck Chuck? It seems to me like it'll do marginally better than The Brothers Solomon.

I saw the entirety of Brothers Solomon. On purpose! Paid for my ticket and everything. Christian's description is entirely accurate, but I laughed (well, chuckled mostly) a lot. I found it disappointing because I think Forte and Arnett are hilarious and the movie is merely amusing... but it's a lot funnier than any number of mainstream comedy hits (at least pre-Apatow).

Thank you, Jesse. Someone who shares my feelings towards Brothers Solomon. It's not horrible, it's rather amusing (the airplane banner gags got me), and I'd much rather take this over Good Luck Chuck. What's the deal with that movie? They're running two different ad campaigns that make it look like two completely different movies, neither of which look worthy of seeing.
On a similar note, no Michelle Monaghan at all in anything vaguely related to Heartbreak Kid. It's all the crazy hot blonde who gets naked and Ben Stiller doing that perturbed look thing he does so well.

No such luck, he's currently in South Africa shooting "Scorpion King 2".

South Africa has already suffered so much. Those poor unfortunate souls. Praytell who did they get to replace Dwayne Johnson?

Winchester, the crazy hot blonde was the neighbor in Brothers Solomon.
I personally don't have much desire to see Good Luck Chuck -- Dane Cook isn't funny and his movies so far all just *look* terrible, like they were shot on leftover film stock; I mean, Jessica Alba's ass is like the easiest thing in the world to photograph and the GLC trailer still looks ugly -- but it will surely make decent money. Those two ad campaigns capture the audience nicely: one for the frat boys, and one for the frat boys' girlfriends. They're probably trying to up the female appeal from Employee of the Month (which I bet turned a profit anyway).

Employee of the Month was a MASSIVE surprise DVD hit. Lions Gate is in the Dane Cook business for a while. I'm sure Good Luck Chuck will hit 50.
And The Brothers Solomon was consistently funny, if very, very awkward and sloppy technically, and will find an audience on DVD.

The problem with Good Luck Chuck is this: Dane Cook looks so strange and creepy in all of the posters for it that I can't stand to even look at it. They should have stuck with the shot of Jessica Alba licking the ice cream cone. Didn't anyone marketing this film get the memo that Dane Cook is box office poison, anyway?

It's a prequel, no doubt starring The Pebble.
