Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Faraci on "Cloverfield" trailer

CHUD's Devin Faraci says he's seen "the" trailer for the monster movie coming from producer J.J. Abrams on 1.18.08. The trailer "lasts 2 minutes and 16 seconds, and will debut in front of Beowulf on 11.16," he says. Faraci also reports that "the version of the trailer I saw had the title attached at the end, so unless this title card was a temporary placeholder for the real title, this movie is called...wait for it...Cloverfield."

Alright, I'm pretty sure everyone, me included, slowly began to like that title...so this could be good.

This could also mean they didn't even know what the fuck to call it. "It Came From the Deep"-nah. "Monstrous"-fuck that. CLOVERFIELD-well, it sounds cool.

I'm hoping it actually ties into the film of course...maybe some type of military/science code name.

"unless this title card was a temporary placeholder for the real title"

Awfully good chance that that is the case, though, no?

Although I think the non-hypiness of "Cloverfield" is kind of intriguing, actually. A movie that doesn't have to beat you over the head with it. I saw a poster today for an upcoming movie called Hitman. Yeah, because no one's made any movies about that profession in the last ten years!

I'm not sure if you're being facetious Mgmax, so I'll just point out that Hitman is based on a video game of the same name.

If that was a joke, just ignore what I said.

I'm guessing the title is fake. They've played so many games thus far with this thing... so that leads me to believe that just because "Devon Faraci" has seen it a few weeks beforehand does not make it so.

I'm really of no opinion on that title. Frankly, I don't care if they simply call it "Movie"... I'll be there to see it on opening day.

I have nothing against CHUD, and I used to go there all the time, but over the past year I have completely stopped visiting it because it seems to me that they have gotten an insane amount of intrusive pop-up ads and web advertising (more so than many other similiar sites).
