AFI Film Fest

In order to take this shot of tonight's AFI Film Fest premiere, I stepped into the middle of Sunset Blvd. and was soon after given a $65 ticket by the LAPD for "walking in roadway" -- Thursday, 11.1.07, 6:45 pm

Hey, Jeff, are the LA's finest that busted you in the shot right there? Least it was under a hundred bucks. I'm really sorry.

Good. Teach you a lesson Jeff. You are not above everyone else despite acting like it all the time.

Wells to thatrader: I'm not above everyone else, but I told the cops that I'm a New Yorker from way back, and N.Y. cops don't pull this petty-ass stuff with guys looking to take pictures and incidentally getting in no one's way and halting no traffic. "We enforce our traffic laws," the cop said. "Great," I replied.

A friend of mine got a 200$ jaywalking ticket in LA this year for crossing an empty intersection at a red light. This town is retarded in a lot of ways.

If they enforced traffic laws, then they'd go for the jerks who cut me off and jerks who make left turns behind me while I'm in the front of a left- turn lane.

Fight it; ask for a trial. The odds are good that bleep cop won't be bothered to show up. Court tosses the ticket. Then you get to write a very satisfying gloating blog post

Ah, Hollywood.
Hookers and their pimps on one side of the street. Crackheads on the other.
And the closest thing to police presence is either Parking Enforcement or giving out BS jaywalking tickets.

Typical of the pigs. If someone is drunk and throwing up in the streets they get a cell overnight, yet if they are comatose and freezing to death on a sidewalk it is "not our job".

"You are not above everyone else despite acting like it all the time."

Everyone in the human race acts as if they are above everyone else since time immemorial. The genius of both market capitalism and the American Constitution is to set that impulse in tension against everyone else's identical impulse, and harness the tension for some good.

This sounds like the kind of nonsense candy-ass bust small-town cops make to help out with their town's struggling finances. "We enforce our traffic laws." Yeah, what a laugh. Welcome to Mayberry, California.

Just for anyone's info.

In downtown LA I got a $300 ticket for not yielding to a blindman (section 21963 of the CA penal code) who was trying to cross the street eventhough the crosswalk said Don't Walk (the cop said a white stick means the guys is legally blind...do they give those out after a sight test... Is that like the red and blue barber pole?)...the "blind guy" was waving me though, I said GO AHEAD, he didn't he waved me though, so I did....then I get pulled over. The cop said it didn't matter if the blind guy said go ahead I had to wait for him no matter what to cross the street.

My friend just got a ticket for jaywalking in Burbank.

But if the cops were so anxious to enforce traffic laws, they could set up one cruiser to nab all the assholes zooming down my street to get to the Grove. It would pay for the streets. Whateva.

To be fair, I've seen 4 pedestrians (in separate incidents) get barreled over by cars in the ten years since I've lived in L.A. Given how few pedestrians there are here, that seems like a lot.
