Fanboy "Beowulf" review

An ecstatic but completely unreliable fanboy review of Robert Zemeckis' Beowulf has appeared on Aint It Cool. The guy is calling the 3-D Paramount release "a fucking masterpiece...really epic... superb [with] Oscar-calibre performances ...one of the best animated films ever made...heart-pounding action sequences and a good dose of edge-of- your-seat scares (especially in the first hour)." Except he says if Beowulf had been a live-action film it "would have been nominated for Best Picture." Take high-school English much? His entire review is suspect because of this one grammatical wrongo.

Best comment from the AICN talkback:

I'm inclined to hang out at the box office when this movie opens, just to hear everyone mangle the movie's title. "One for 'Bowie-wolf,' please!" "I'd like two tickets to 'Blowful,' please!" "When is the next showing of 'Bow-wow-wolf'?"

Suspect? Every scene he talks about is in the script I have. I think he's legit - and just a tad excited!

A friend of mine saw a Real D screening this week. He was very, very impressed.

I will say this, Polar Express in IMAX 3-D was truly spectacular (the characters didn't even seem to look as squirrelly as the 2-D photos I saw); I've been recommending it to skeptical friends ever since, and doggedly insisting they see it when it comes around at Christmas time. I'm not surprised if this is, in 3-D, and at least, a visual sensation.

If BEOWULF is anything like POLAR EXPRESS then I can see why it will be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar--much moreso than RATATOUILLE (which was very well done but hardly Best Picture material). POLAR EXPRESS was a masterpiece.

Just like you eating a salad at an arcade and complaining about it... what do you expect in terms of grammer from AICN?

Why even point it out?

The whole review is suspect because it was written by a drooling, comic book-worshipping, dorked-out, stand-in-line-for-a-week-to-get-an-iPhone AICN nerdlinger.

He's the kind of guy that sees a two minute trailer for a movie and declares with certainty "that's gonna be AWESOME!"

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the graphic novel that Beowulf was based on?

Also, how did Beowulf get his powers?

Wait...don't tell me... I'll wait for the comic or the movie.

Drew of AICN saw it too. It's another wild rave. He saw it the way I suggest everyone who goes to see it sees it : in IMAX 3D.

i saw this in imax/3-d last night and, while it really is a remarkable visual experience, that wears off after about a half hour...you're then left feeling like you're watching a video game without the benefit of a controller or joystick.... much of the audience was laughing at dialog that was astoundingly bad....that first half hour, however, is pretty stunning...

Does anyone really give credence to anything posted at AICN anymore? Everyone there is either bought and paid for by the studio or a sycophantic fanboy who dreams of someday being bought and paid for by the studios. Thanks, but I'll wait for some real reviews.

I was 99% positive Beowulf was going to suck, but after reading this now I'm 100% positive.
