Stranded, I Have Come From a Plane that Crashed on the Mountains
At last night's Gotham Awards, Entertainment Weekly's Dave Karger confessed to The Envelope's Tom O'Neil that Michael Clayton is his favorite pet pony in the Best Picture race. And that strategy-wise, he sees Atonement and No Country for Old Men as the likeliest contenders.

Haven't seen ATONEMENT so can't comment yet, but very much looking forward to it. CLAYTON was a terrific movie but it's not best picture material. Still, if it got nominated, I wouldn't be pissed. I loved NO COUNTRY and I do think it has a shot at a nomination but it will be out of respect to the Coens...no chance it will win. I won't be surprised (or upset) if AMERICAN GANGSTER gets a nom (or wins). Ridley is waaay overdue. I know that there is no chance in hell that JESSE JAMES and ZODIAC will be up for the big enchilada so that frustrates me; I'm hoping that INTO THE WILD sneaks in there, but it being a Penn film and the liberal leanings of the main character and the message of the film itself might be too much for the old farts in the academy.
