"The studio executives are not going to suffer. The union leaders are not going to suffer. The writers on strike are not going to suffer. These are people that have money. The electricians, the grips [and] the set designers are the people suffering because they will not get paid now and they are out of work." -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as quoted by KFSN-TV. Schwarzenegger has said "he will get involved in contract talks if asked."

This from the economic action hero who filmed movies in Canada and dropped the Enron lawsuit.
Go back to raising all that money you said you didn't need, Arnold.

Christian-- where you stand depends on where you sit, no?
What would you have the Governor of California say in this situation? Realistically?

Yeesh. Pander, much?
On a sliding scale, Arnold is infinitely more tolerable than the average Republican politician these days, but this REEKS of cynical spin control: Everyone knows he's from 'the industry,' and he doesn't want the working-class tradespeople who're gonna feel it first (and are a bigger voting bloc than the writers union) to get mad at him; so he's pretending to buy into the BS that the people striking aren't really in any financial trouble themselves. Lame.

The writers aren't going to suffer? How dumb a statement is that? The writers you recognize on the picket line may not suffer. The writers you've heard of may not suffer. But there are, what, 12,000 writers in the Guild? Writers careers will likely END. Most of us don't necessarily have piles of money to live off of or some war chest to get us through this period. Yet 90% voted for the strike. To imply the writers only take this action cuz it's no skin off their nose is bullshit.

At least half of the WGA members are unemployed. These are people who do not have money. The strike is a sacrifice that is hurting a lot of them.
If Arnold can't understand something as simple and obvious as that, he needs to stay the fuck out of negotiations.

OK so Charlie Kaufman and Akiva Goldsman aren't hurting, but what about the majority of the writers out there who don't make a shitload of money. Arnold, you know better than to say this bullshit you lying fuck.

These rich writers that no one feels sorry for usually have the leverage to get dvd and online percentages on their work. It's the non celebrity writers who this strike is for. The rich celebs are just coming out to support the writers.

It's standard studio PR to portray the writers as "wealthy Hollywood types" instead of average working people.
There is something basically wrong with studios raking in the bucks on successful films and TV series any way they can for decades and those that actually are responsible for the product get squat.
And I know that writers writer a lot of crap. If it's crap the public doesn't like, they won't be getting any residuals. If it's crap the public does like, they should get their reward for successfully gauging the public's taste or lack thereof.

Yes, but we're examining the substance of his veiled statements. Which are bullshit as others not me have pointed out. So not sure how that drops me into the DZ zone, but at least we know you don't dare question The Terminator.
