Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Benazair Bhutto Zapruder tape

The Benazair Bhutto "Zapruder tape" is a little hard to sort out. I had to watch it three times before spotting the assassin. You need to watch the other one too, which also has sounds of gunshots and an explosion.

The visuals of the Ray Ban-wearing assassin and the sound of gunshots strongly suggest that Ms. Bhutto didn't die by hitting her head on a lever of her car's sunroof during the attack, as Pakistan government spokespersons have claimed in a stab of almost Duck Soup-like surrealism. The N.Y. Times reports that yesterday Pakistani newspapers "covered their front pages with photographs showing a man apparently pointing a gun at her from just yards away. "

Why are the Pakistani officials so afraid to acknowledge she was shot?

That guy at the press conference reminded me of the Soviet news anchor in one of those Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker comedies reading the news while someone held a gun to his head.

"Why are the Pakistani officials so afraid to acknowledge she was shot?"

Because they killed her.

(Just unleashing my inner DZ, you all know you want to do it sometimes!)

If memory serves, wasn't there an assassination attempt the very first day she returned? The sick thing is, she returned at the prodding of America, who supported her - not to win, it turns out, but simply to provide the appearance of a real election race.

The Pakistani government must have known that there was no way that the incident wouldn't be filmed. Which makes their story seem much more suspect.

The Pakistani Government did not have her killed. Think about it, what's the benefit for them? If she's alive, her party wins the election. If she's dead, she becomes a martyr and her party wins the election. Plus, she was supported by the U.S., who also supports Musharraf.

No, the truth is more complex. It was either someone in her party or AQ (doubtful) or Sharif's party.

Why did Bhutto email Wolf Blitzer that if she died, Musharaff was responsible? And why him? And where's that story?

Don't let this assassination over-shadow the much more horrible things America has done. In fact, the U.$. probably assassinated her.

What election?
