God damnit BURN AFTER READING is going to be awesome, though of course it's going to be trashed as a comic misfire following a masterpiece just like BIG LEBOWSKI was, only to be loved and admired in time. Although I guess it could actually suck. Doubtful.
What happened to A Serious Man? No mention of it on imdb.
Also in the "what happened to" department: anybody seen Milkman lately? I kinda miss the neurotic little bastard. I suspect his eeeevil father of foul play.
And Joshua Mooney's been mia for long, long time. You alive, Joshua?
Completely off the subject, but it's a good thing Jeffrey liked Johnny Depp in Sweeney Todd. Otherwise, today's announcement that Depp will be playing Dillinger in Michael Mann's 30's gangster pic would have caused Jeffrey's head to explode.
BTW: Fincher's Seven is in my top five favorite movies, however, did anyone else think Pitt was a little, uh, off? He seemed high or drunk in some of the scenes. Anyway...Mann and Depp!
The real Dillinger looked more like Billy Bob or Fred Forrest -- not that this really matters. People like their anti-hero movie psychopaths to be attractive, and I'm sure Depp will do a fine job if Mann reins in the quirk.
Speaking of Wells' opinions on subjects, I'm wondering if he's seen Romney's religion adress this morning, which while I'm not of his party or in his corner, is certainly the best speech given by any candidate in this election cycle, and probably the most impressive since Obama's 2004 Keynote Adress.
Burma: I dunno; I read the speech and it struck me as pandering to "people of faith" (well-written, but still). Speeches about "religious tolerance" never seem to mention atheists, even tho' "freedom of religion" also means the freedom not to be religious...

At this point, I don't see how anyone can trust what Romney says. And everyone thought John Kerry was a flip-flopper, well, look no further then the other man in Massachusetts running for president. Romney might get the nomination but he's dead in the water after that. I don't believe him. I don't trust him. So, because of that, I didn't believe a word he said in that speech. Most impressive since Obama's 2004 Keynote Address? Please.
BTW: The great Emmanuel Lubezki is lensing Burn after Reading...didn't know that...interesting...
Just saw the speech on youtube and thought it was put there to make fun of him. Did not realize people thought it made sense. "Freedom can not exist without religion". WTF?
I understand most of you have not in fact worked on campaigns or in politics, and I'll agree on the text itself, but it's all about delivery. Trust me, it did the trick.
Also, my comparison to Obama was not meant to equate the quality as much as point out the lack of anyone saying anything remotely impressive in quite some time.
The increasingly unhinged Hugh Hewitt said it "...was a magnificent speech."
Which means, nope. I can't stand Romney's voice. I like what somebody else said about him: if you turn down the sound, it looks as if he's actually saying, "What do I have to do to get you in this car?"
And how great the MSM allows Romney unlmited air time for his genflections but other candidates who have more to say, not so much. Damn liberal media!
But since Huckabee killed his shot with yesterday's revelation (get it?) that he lied about pressing the parole board for the release of serial rapist Wayne Dumond (because Dumond raped a relative of Bill Clinton and a you know, that means Conspiracy!), Romney has a wider stance...
Shorter Romney: "America is a Jesus loving country. I love Jesus. When I'm president, Jesus will be allowed into government with no repercussions. How's my hair?"
Apparently just everybody agrees that freedom is the shiznit, so panderers always like to link it up with whatever they're trying to sell -- can't have freedom without religion, gotta fight for freedom, others died for your freedom, and all that happy horseshit.
Just what freedom might be is a mighty ponderous philosophical question, but suffice it to say that perfectly common sense tells you if you have to buy it, it ain't free. If it comes with preconditions, it also ain't free.
I have rarely heard a politician speak without degrading the meaning of language. That we don't notice this is because we're either dumb as rocks or we've just accepted it as the norm. "Well, by God, he must mean SOMETHING." Maybe he means something, but it's not what you think, sucker. "I want power, and I'm going to eat your brain to get it if I have to." George Romero was a prophet.

I prize Brad Pitt primarily as a comic actor, and not all that much as a dramatic one, but he stomped all over his punchline. No delivery at all.

Brolin as Dan White is great casting; glad it's him and not Matt Damon as originally rumored. Just hope it's not a Van Sant "art" wank.
