Rex Reed talking to Dick Cavett 37 years ago about the forthcoming 1970 Oscar awards (covering 1969 films). Reed was fairly cynical, of course, but what strikes me is how familiar his complaints sound. The game, the attitude and the dance steps never change.

I didn't know Ian Sinclair was old enough to have been on the Cavett show. Lookin' good, buddy! ; )

Rex Reed is such a creepy guy.
I'd love to see someone do a video mash-up of him and Rufus Wainwright.

Funny how it seemed inconceivable that Maggie Smith would win.

I notice the network had to chop out the words 'paternity suit' re: Cary Grant.

Rex is an old-school gay -- the kind who used to sip warm brandy in his pajamas while watching Now, Voyager on the late show.

When in L.A., I'm sure you can find him at The Spotlight on Sunset and Cahuenga.
Made the mistake of walking in there once with some friends, thinking it was a run-of-the-mill dive bar. Boy were WE wrong.

Not only are the complaints the same, the predictions are just as good. None of his thoughts about supporting actress or actor are correct and he totally dismisses Maggie Smith's chances and she won!

For a legendary display of snark, Rex's review of THE WILD BUNCH is hard to top. And for a legendary piece of snarky celebrity profile: Rex's ESQUIRE takedown of Wsrren Beatty circa 1967.

And to see virtual nausea, watch Reed pleasure himself in MYRA BRECKENRIDGE, which fairly invalidates his film opines for life.

Reed was and is creepy, and he's never been a critic. But those celebrity profiles he wrote in the Times in the late 60s/early 70s were outstanding. His tongue-in-cheek interview with himself, presenting Reed the actor as a pompous ass, was hilarious.

At the beginning of the clip Cavett and Reed dismiss half the actors who've won best supporting actors over the previous 15 years as performers who can't be stars, and would never have real roles again because they can "only say sayonara". Among this worthless beings who won best supporting in the 15 years prior to the clip?
He's obviously taling about Red Buttons, but the list would include:
Jack Lemmon, Anthony Quinn, Burl Ives, Peter Ustinov, Melvyn Douglas, Martin Balsam, Walter Mattau, George Kennedy and Jack Albertson.
Okay, I'll give them George Chakiris as someone who did not much else, but they sure do sound clueless today.
(And it is cute to hear Cavett talk about looking something up in an almanac.)

Albert Brooks does a great job of lampooning RR in the beginning of 'Lost in America,' and does so with nothing but the queen's own words.

Yes, Mae West sings in MB. And that film is not "so bad it's good" it's just plain so bad.

Awesome concept. I know a buddy of mine makes use of templates. This stuff is great for if you append rows to a grid or list.
Also, it would probably be great for having some sort of "viewer". You could have a list of documents, and use jQuery to get JSON data, then put the data into the template. Something like viewing invoices or other formatted docs.
Just to be picky too, according to w3schools.com, the "value" tag is deprecated? But I guess it is still technically valid. I like to be "valid" when I can :)
