Snowed down in Brookline

The drive to Syracuse was abandoned 10 miles out of Boston on the Mass Pike. Total blizzard conditions, only the vaguest visibility beyond 200 yards, tens of trillions of snowflakes dropping each and every second, traffic moving 5 to 10 mph, some cars fishtailing and spinning out. Big snowstorms means big spectacle and everything stops or slows to a crawl -- all systems are suddenly on hold and everyone's on a kind of vacation. It took me almost two hours to make it back to Brookline...a great adventure!

Somewhere in Brookline -- Thursday, 12.13.07, 2:15 pm

Here's a 51-second video taken on the way back to town on the Mass Pike, and here's a 35-second video taken on Aspinwall Street in Brookline. It's a shame that my Canon A540 isn't good enough to capture the snowflakes. They're the whole show. Without them snaps are just a gray haze and the old snow-blanket effect.

love these little windows into the wide world of j. wells.

p.s. jeff, can we get a few more posts bitching about the GG nods? there's plenty for you to gripe about without resorting to further beatings of your stable of dead horses... i know i'm particularly peeved about clint eastwood's nothing of a score being nominated over jonny greenwood's BRILLIANT contribution to there will be blood. carp carp carping, but oscar voters out there need to have certain whispers in their ears.

Haha. Awesome, Jeff.

I miss the snow out here, man. I rove through a blizzard on memorial day up in Idaho, though, which brought back fond memories.

Nice vids.

Yikes. So glad I left Ohio those many year ago. Jeff, the Chicago Film Critics not only gave their Best Supporting Actress award to Cate for 'I'm Not There', but '4 Months...' won Best Foreign, and "No Country For Old Men' reaped Best Pic & Director. I expect you'll want to send them a gift basket...something. They gave Affleck 'Most Promsing Filmmaker' (no, really), so they evidently caught the Amy Ryan performance before picking Cate. So, the snow is a drag, but the Amy Ryan runaway train hit a roadblock finally, so you take the bitter with the sweet.

You pussy. I once (circa 1985) drove through a rampant blizzard from Manhattan to Lake Hopatcong N.J. via Rtes. 3/46/80 West, with my 75-year-old grandmother in the passenger seat yelling at me to pick up the pace the whole while. So what's Jett gonna do now, man?
