Another early '08 dumper -- Gregory Hoblit's Untraceable (Screen Gems, 1.25.08). You can smell it off the trailer, which reveals most of the main plot bones (apparently) except for the last half of the final act. FBI agents (Diane Lane, Colin Hanks, Billy Burke) after a serial killer who uses website hits to help perpetrate killings, and thus reminding us that we're all vulnerable to cyber invasions. Gives every indication of having been a completely cynical paycheck job for everyone concerned.

Yay, another Sony focus group driven movie geared towards women, see "Premonition" and countless other bombas.

It seems like every one of his films is progressively worse than the one before. I really liked Primal Fear, and Fallen is fun (if unspectacular), but everything else has been real bad.

Wells, I thought Billy Burke was the new Steve McQueen?

Fracture was spectacularly mediocre. Hart's War wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, but it was far from great. I loved the craziness of Frequency but I know it's pure nonsense. Fallen and Primal Fear are both well done thrillers. Hoblit did his best work in television.

Sounds like a remake to Argento's The Card Player. Who wants to bet that the killer ends up being one of the detectives?

I'm still waiting for an 08 trailer that looks remotely promising.

This trailer was breathtakingly awful. Diane Lane is such a fucking movie star, though. I'd kill to see her work with a Soderbergh or a Crowe or someone.

I've seen “UNTRACEABLE†at a test screening in late October in New York and it’s suprisingly good. A really suspenseful film with a good performance by Diane Lane. It's dark, macarbe and intense in a "SEVEN" kinda way. Much better than expected. Prepare to sit on the edge of your seat at certain times. Not entirely sure how authentic it all is but apparently the FBI were involved with the making of it. Defo worth checking out.
