Mafioso (The Criterion Collection, 3.18.2008) Nino Badalamenti is a supervisor in a car manufacturing plant who hasn't taken a vacation in over two years. On his way out the door to visit his beloved childhood hometown of Sicily -- with his blonde wife and daughters -- Nino is handed a package by his boss and asked to deliver it to a powerful and influential Sicilian gangster named Don Vincenzo. Once in Sicily, Nino has a hoot seeing friends and family, but his wife has trouble fitting in and is unfairly dismissed as a snob by Nino's family. Even more worrisome, Nino finds himself entangled in an intricate web of secret mafioso dealings and is eventually sent on an unexpectedly... elaborate errand. (continued)

Gallup reports tightening

"Barack Obama has now cut the gap with Hillary Clinton to 6 percentage points among Democrats nationally in the Gallup Poll Daily tracking three-day average," today's Gallup summary reads. "And interviewing conducted Tuesday night shows the gap between the two candidates is within a few points.

"Obama's position has been strengthening on a day-by-day basis. As recently as Jan. 18-20, Clinton led Obama by 20 points. Today's Gallup Poll Daily tracking is based on interviews conducted Jan. 27-29, all after Obama's overwhelming victory in South Carolina on Saturday. Two out of the three nights interviewing were conducted after the high-visibility endorsement of Obama by Sen. Edward Kennedy and his niece Caroline Kennedy."

all after Obama's overwhelming victory in South Carolina on Saturday...

...and before the Edwards effect could be measured.

Wells, you are so manic with this stuff...so high one minute, so low the next...then back on top of the world.

Frankie says relax.

Also, didn't Giuliani teach us that national polls mean squat.

I don't remember the last time the national vote mattered in the election process.

National polls don't tell us much about, for example, who the winner of the Iowa Caucus is likely to be.

However, with a virtual national primary on Tuesday (22 states relatively evenly dispersed across the country) a tightening in national numbers could be a better indicator of how the race is likely to shape up for Super Tuesday in the aggregate.

But still, the state by state polls will be more important indicators. And we're not likely to see a lot of those in the smaller states between now and the primaries.

Jeff, are you ever going to learn the simple truth? Polls = bullshit. The sooner you realize this, the better off you'll be. I would say at this point Obama and Hillary are neck-and-neck regardless of what some poll says. Going with a general "vibe" is often times more accurate.

Guys, the point of this post is 'everyone's getting on the Obama bandwagon, don't get left behind'. Cool-kid peer pressure stuff.

After New Hampshire, I would think the Obama campaign would be of the opinion, "with polls like this, who needs enemies?"

But Florida doesn't count.

Jeff Wells and Andy Sullivan should move into each other's blogs.

I await the next Wells post comparing those who don't worship Obama as Nazis.
