"'I'm telling you, Keith, this is Lexington and Concord -- this is going around the world,' MSNBC's Chris Matthews told his election night co-host, Keith Olbermann, in describing last night's Iowa victory by Barack Obama. He announced that the nation was in a rut and that the Iowa vote signaled a craving for radical change: 'It's taking us to a new place. The biblical term, since we're in a biblical era, is deliverance.'" -- from Alessandra Stanley's 1.4.08 "TV Watch" column in this morning's N.Y. Times.

In the spirit of bipartisanship, can we all finally agree that Keith Olbermann is a complete joke of an analyst?
He spent most of last night trying to spin Iowa as a *Clinton* victory, or some such thing.
Go back to ESPN, Keith. I'm sure there's a hockey game that needs to be called.

Dave, in the 10 minutes of coverage that I saw it seemed like Olbermann was just trying to balance out Matthews's constant Clinton-bashing, which I understand is also a fixture on Hardball.
And that quote Jeff posted was one reason why I turned off the television and picked up a book.

I'm not being racist. I saw the Great Debaters. Oprah and I both know Barack has the gift. Oration. He's like a vessel channeling forces. He's inspiring, smart, tough, fair and he's black and he's proud and Ron Burkle can't do anything about it.
Give the gals props; I thought greta van susteren susan estrich and laura ingraham did a good job. Pretty boy Sheppard Smith was such a one trick trotting pony.

Dave,
Have you watched 'Countdown'? I mean actually watch it, or are you getting your info from some right-wing blog? Olbermann has a great show; Matthews needs to quit with that stupid laugh he has. Also, Matthews is not the next Tim Russert. He should quit trying to be that. I know it's tough, Olbermann on at the same time as "No spin" O'Reilly, but I have watched both shows. O'Reilly used to be pretty fair. He's now leaning too much to the right.

As for Chris Matthews on the "biblical" Obama win - what hyperbole. Obama will come back down to earth in New Hampshire...

Olbermann's show is unwatchable. The whole thing is one big echo chamber. He never brings guests on with opposing points of view and virtually all his viewers think exactly like him. Say what you want about Bill O'Reilly but I think a good chunk of his viewers are people who hate him.
Hardball has also become a joke. Matthews is never as smart as the guests he brings on. Most of the time he's left drooling, literally and figuratively, on himself.
It's a joke that MSNBC had these two guys co-anchoring their coverage. They couldn't even be bothered to have someone who even pretends to be neutral or god forbid conservative to balance Olbermann and Matthews shows what they must think of their audience.

A big story squashed by the blinding light of Obamarama. Imagine if this guy was on Hillary's team, Andy Sullivan would just spit:
The whole controversy might have been forgotten in the swell of gospel sound except Mr. McClurkin turned the final half hour of the three-hour concert into a revival meeting about the lightning rod he has become for the Obama campaign.
He approached the subject gingerly at first. Then, just when the concert had seemed to reach its pitch and about to end, Mr. McClurkin returned to it with a full-blown plea: “Don’t call me a bigot or anti-gay when I have suffered the same feelings,†he cried.
“God delivered me from homosexuality,†he added. He then told the audience to believe the Bible over the blogs: “God is the only way.†The crowd sang and clapped along in full support....
Mr. McClurkin’s support for Mr. Obama could signal to some black evangelical voters that race and religion are more important than Mr. Obama’s support for gay rights.

Anyway, you must be thrilled about Huckabee. Chuck Norris for VP!

Yeah, christian, you're right. Matthews is such a pimp for Bush.
Oh, and did you see this?
"TV election news has been hardest on Hillary Clinton this fall, while Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee have been the biggest media favorites, according to a new study by the Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) at George Mason University. The study also found that Fox NewsChannel’s evening news show provided more balanced coverage than its counterparts on the broadcast networks."
And for the Billionth time, O'Reilly and Hannity are NOT news anchors. They are commentators. See how that works?

Walter, O'Reilly and Hannity are not commentators. They are ENTERTAINERS. They entertain the right. In fact, they are my favorite stooges on Fox. It's a tough choice, what with Gibson, that horrible morning crew, Cavuto. It was difficult to pick just two.

The thing that my friends and I were kibitzing about yesterday .... and I didn't actually see this, so understand that it was only related to me .... was the love that McCain was getting from commentators for his performance. Apparently finishing 20+ points off the pace in a near-tie with a guy who hardly ran and a couple points ahead of the campaign crank now means that you had "a big night."

Chris Matthews is overrated, and certainly not the next Tim Russert, who came from the John Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State.
But I think Chris Matthews does a nice job, produces a good program, and may have been right on target last night. Why? It wasn't that Obama won, or won big, it was the number of people he and the Democrats brought out to the polls. Double the number of the previous caucus. It was a portent of big change, as Matthews said.
Keith Olbermann is always doing shtick. But he does it with a wink, and Bill O'Reilly is dead serious about his. I enjoy Olbermann on Sunday Night Football, but when you transcribe that into the political realm I am not sure it is worth tuning into on a regular basis.
I think Olbermann is highly intelligent, and with more balance and less gags he could probably be a very good analyst.

Matthews strikes me as an imbecile. Jon Stewart's apt skewering of his sleazy life-as-campaign book was awesome. Just watch Matthews; he can't believe he's being challenged, which means few have to his face.
Russert is slightly better, but his smug UFO question to Kucinich was the height of hypocrisy. No questions to Obama on his belief in a great sky spirit...
I find them all corporate tools and puppets. And they did deliver the Iraq War for Bush, so...fuck 'em.
