Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Forget "The Devils"

The source of yesterday's rumor about a DVD of Ken Russell's The Devils coming out in May was Warner Home Video's own online/business website, which is called WHV Direct. The information, however, was a "mistake," according to WHV exec publicity director Ronnee Sass. She explained that right now "there are absolutely no plans to put out The Devils in '08," although the title may make an appearance down the road.

Bloody hell. When it's WB's own dealer site that screws this up, it makes us all pound the desk like Frank Reynolds on World News Tonight muttering as to why facts can't get nailed down around here.

Unless the box art is some bogus fanboy work (which it does not appear to be) I seriously doubt Warner - or any other studio for that matter - would have gone to the trouble of creating DVD key art for something not planned for release within the next 9 months. My guess is that it was on the schedule for a May '08 release and has been pushed back to a date TBA.

Didn't the Egyptian (in LA) show this a few months ago?
How was the print?
I wonder because the source material might be questionable.

I have a Brith copy of this extended version loaded with great extras and the print qualuity is excellent, so there is a good transfer somewhere.
