NPR's Kim Masters and Pete Hammond talk about the unbridgable gulf between the savorers of Oscar-nominated films and performances (not to mention worshippers of 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days) and those enjoyed by Gorilla Nation.

"Only one of the Best Picture nominees  Juno  did well at the box office. The rest are limping along."
That's a flat-out lie. People like Kim Masters simply don't know how to analyze data. Worldwide, Clayton has mad $83 million on a budget of $25 million, No Country has made $93 million on a budget of about $20 million, There Will Be Blood has made $37 million on a budget of $25 million, and Atonement has made $114 million on a budget of $30 million. Sure Transformers and Spider-Man 3 made a lot more money, but they also cost over $200 million to make and a hell of a lot more to market. Overall, I think you'd have to be insane to see these two types of movies at opposite sides of the success-failure spectrum.

This year's nominees has already surpassed the box office for 2006 and 2005 nominees, and Juno and There Will Be Blood are still in the theaters. Every one of these films has done OK business, at least.
