I've never read a good Maggie Thatcher biography, but I suspect she was a bit less calculating and opportunistic than Hillary Clinton. I suspect that Thatcher was who she was, and it played more or less naturally.
I slogged though both of Thatcher's auto-bios, "Path to Power" and "The Downing Street Years" because I'm a fan.... both were rather dry to say the least, especially the first... (i.e. "...then I began my four year row with Ian Slough, Chancellor of the Haberdashery and Chief Councilor of Chipwhich, at the time the most powerful politician in Eastern Dipwick...")
Some good bits in "Downing Street", though.... especially her Reagan interactions.
Spin, I find it very hard to believe that Margaret Thatcher ever had a girlish twitter. But maybe she was a hottie way, way back when. I get cold, unpleasant chills just typing this.
"Reece also did much to remake Margaret Thatcher. His intuition, reinforced by studies of audience reactions to her television performances, led him to believe that she was seen as "uncaring". It was a combination of her hair, clothes and "that voice". He worked to soften her image. He hired a National Theatre coach to teach her to practise humming exercises in order to lower and deepen her voice, advised on clothing, accompanied her to her television and radio interviews, and made sure that she avoided combative interviewers who would make her strident."

So who's keeping score here?
How many times Hillary has cried-
How many times Obama has gallantly come to the aid of a swooning woman-

What would be so wrong with having a President who cried? I'm for Obama, but is Clinton so horrible?

Oh dear God, is she crying again? I guess it plays to the uneducated women. I think it's shameless, manipulative, I'll-do-anything pandering.

'I suspect that Thatcher was who she was, and it played more or less naturally.'
All British women undergo a transformation late in life which changes their girlish twitter into a manly baritone.

Obituary: Sir Gordon Reece
Don't remember where I heard it, but Thatcher's pre-leadership voice was described as "girlish".
