Visual effects Oscar

Dwayne Johnson delivering the Best Visual Effects Oscar, which moves me not. The cool effects are the ones you don't notice. The team behind The Golden Compass, the bomb that rocked New Line Cinema, wins. Who cares? Nobody. Not me anyway. I hate blatant CGI.

I didn't like any of the nominated movies in this category (and if I were giving this award, would have voted for ZODIAC), but...

Giving it to THE GOLDEN COMPASS is ridiculous. I don't care how much the community may not care for TRANSFORMERS or the team behind it, this is just... a mistake. I can't say that I "care" exactly, but it's a tough award to rationalize.

Bomb? It did very well overseas, no? Surely, it's turned a profit, albeit not as much as they might have hoped.

How many people are losing their Oscar pools because of this bizarre call?

I like Transformers. Others didn't and that's fine.
But to not give it the FX award is riddiculous. Only slightly less absurd than had the academy skipped over Star Wars or T2 in this category. Absurd.
