Why not go ahead and change the title of this blog to 'Politics Here', replace all the movie banners with ads for Obama or slams against Hilary and get on with it.
I have been lurking for years, but I need to step up and get your back on this one. I say, keep the political post coming. The time is now. If that speech does not move you, then you don't have a pulse. It is as strong as any dialog that you will see, hear or feel from any of the five Oscar Best Picture contenders this year. Thanks for the link - powerful.
If a stark, b&w montage of b-list celebrities lipsynching and pensively wrapping their arms around themselves doesn't move you to vote Obama, I don't know what will.
Wells to Jack Kerouac: Please go away and find your peace somewhere else. I'm getting really sick of guys writing "hey, I thought this was a movie site!" Everything's everything, baby. Movies, culture, the Oscars, politics, DVDS...it all feeds into a single river, and there's no room on HE for secular purist monks. Take your keys, drive off, be well, find your own kwan.
Great post Wells. This is your site. You do with it what you think feels right. Personally. I'm quite discouraged that when supposed film loving, art loving, intellectually inclined folk like myself don't want to talk about politics. Regardless of your political stance this is one of the most important moments in our country's history and some would rather do nothing but talk about the box office significance of fucking Juno.

I am an Artist enthralled with the notion of talking politics, especially in this all-important election year, and for that discussion I go to sites with hosts that are less narrow-minded, bullying and more politically savvy. It seems that the only political discussion that takes place here is reduced to 'Obama is God', 'Hillary Sucks' and 'Republicans are evil'. There is no tolerance for other viewpoints, no chance to play devil's advocate and no real discussion of issues.
Sorry, I wouldn't even care if all these political posts where supporting a candidate I liked, it would still bother me. I thought this was a movie site.
I'm done... I've just removed this from my newsreader.
JackKerouac, a very good point. I suppose this site is, above all things, and like many out there, an advocacy site.
Truth is, I'd be happy with either Obama or Hillary but McCain is probably going to win. And yeah, the guy from October Road singing on a video isn't going to change anyone's mind.
Jack said it. The problem isn't that the site has too much politics. The problem is that every political posting is pretty much exactly the same (Obama roolz/Hillary sucks) without nuance or complexity, or even, you know, discussion of issues or actual content.
So what does everyone think about the Fed dropping interest rates so much, or the ongoing turmoil in Kenya?
