Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Nice Vibes

John McCain and Mike Huckabee both played it fairly and decently when asked about the Reverend Wright horseshit. This is just one sidelight, but right now I'm feeling a humanity from these two that I'm pretty sure Hillary Clinton has never heard of, even in her sleep. If only McCain wasn't a nutjob on Iraq, was a little smarter and maybe a tad younger, didn't have a dicey history with lobbyists, and knew something about the economy.

Oh, you know, George W. wouldn't be such a bad guy either, if only a few dozen fundamental things were different about him.

It is good to remember the humanity of your opponents. Including Hillary and her backers.

But he is, Jeff, he is in that wheelchair, so no need to fantasize about what he coulda woulda do. If America lets these boneheads continue to make disastrous decisions...

Let's heed Hans Blix sharp words on the birthday of the bullshit war started by political criminals:

Writing in The Guardian on the five-year anniversary of the US-led invasion of Iraq, Blix, who clashed with Washington in the run-up to the Iraq war, described the war as "a tragedy -- for Iraq, for the US, for the UN, for truth and human dignity."

In the sub-headline to the comment piece, Blix, who headed the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission, wrote that responsibility for the war "must lie with those who ignored the facts five years ago".

At the time of the Iraq war, Blix accused the US and Britain of exaggerating the threat from Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's alleged "weapons of mass destruction" -- traces of which have never been found.

In his comment piece, he said the war was a "setback in the world's efforts to develop legal restraints on the use of armed force between states" and added that in 2003, "Iraq was not a real or imminent threat to anybody."

I figured it out Jeff. You're the liberal Rush Limbaugh. You'd support anyone, even the leading candidates from the other party, other than Hillary Clinton. We all laughed when Limbaugh, Coulter, et al starting savaging McCain, saying they'd definately vote for Clinton if McCain is the Republican nominee.

I confess is doesn't sound as funny when someone from my side does the opposite...

Maeanwhile, for 14 years, Hillary has been part of an elite D.C. Christian cult.

"The Family avoids the word Christian but worship Jesus, though not the Jesus who promised the earth to the "meek." They believe that, in mass societies, it's only the elites who matter, the political leaders who can build God's "dominion" on earth. Insofar as the Family has a consistent philosophy, it's all about power -- cultivating it, building it, and networking it together into ever-stronger units, or "cells."

I think Jeff nailed it exactly on McCain. McCain
has a fundemental decency, dignity and
courage that I don't detect in any other
candidate, Dem or Rep.
But vote for him? I shudder....four more years
of non-stop war (McCain wil most certainly have to reinstate the draft - he won't have enough
cannon fodder to go around) Meanwhile,
millions more will lose their homes while paying
seven dollors a gallon at the pump. Of course, at
least we'll have all these middle east wars
finally prosecuted by an actual warrior...as opposed to Bush and Cheyney, two of the most
cowardly draft dodgers who ever drew breath.

The ship is sinking on Hillary and Obama. How could this happen? The thought of McCain in the white house...4 more years of bullshit. If I voted, I would not feel good about electing such an old guy. You can see Fox news just drooling over the possibility of McCain winning. The war will go on, along with all the other stuff. I do believe congress will remain in control of the Dems, and will anything happen? No. Stalemate for 4 years, and then we'll be back to where we are now. I think Hillary has to bite the bullet, concede, compromise, and get behind Barack. Of course, the Republcans are waiting for this. They will pimp the Rev. Wright jive out all the way until the election. What a shame the Democrats can't win such a winnable election. I will be staying home on election day.

I think McCain's a decent man who made a deal with the devil to get a shot at the presidency. He reversed himself on torture and Bush's tax cuts and he's aligned himself with the most extreme of the neoconservatives on foreign policy.

But George is right: there's a lot of time between now and the election. McCain's going to be under more scrutiny in the future, and I don't think he's going to benefit from it.

The spotlight has not hit McCain, kids. And the reason he and Huckabee are showing such "decency" is because of their connections to various wacked ministers. Huckabee released a rapist from jail because of Clinton Hate (one of the victims was a cousin of Bill) who then went out and killed.

For God's sake, Falwell and Robertson had close relations with presidents Reagan/Bush and Ted Haggard often spoke with George W.! This hypocrisy is astounding.

But when it comes to a two-person race, things
will change and McCain's suspect connections will come to light. He's trying to stave it off.

But none of you Obama supporters could see this coming? That's a problem. Just another reason to seperate church and state from politicians.

Ha, this is a pretty funny metaphor. I think you're missing one part of that sequence though Walter. After you say your car is parked out front, you're supposed to suggest that we throw a few dozen hand grenades onto the side walk and randomly fire an assault rifle at your neighbors walking down the street minding their own business.

Then....you go out front and find the car isn't where the burned out, ravaged parking space is. And then, yes, we call you a liar, because we don't have a ride home now.

Walter, what if you KNEW your car was not parked outside -- but you sorta hoped it wouldn't matter to the people you sent out to find it?

And then you sent them into a war zone to find the non-existent car for reasons you thought important enough to bury the actual truth.

And then you called people "cowards" for not believing you. And when they did go, only to find no car but much death, that it didn't matter and it was time to move on....to the next car.

That's a better analogy.

What if you indeed had a car that you knew was going to be repossessed the next day, so you call some of your buddies who sneak your car across the border into Syria? Then when the repo man shows up the next day, you put on your most innocent face and say "What car, I never had a car."

Monument, there's been no evidence whatsoever of weapons being delivered to Syria. If there was the Pentagon would know more about it than Hannity, Limbaugh and the others who you get your fantasies from.

But if there is one against one, certainly Obama or Clinton will soak up more support and increase that percentage. One against two does not a fair polling make. America wants to put a Democrat in charge, we'll see who blows it.

Also: Clinton is part of THE FAMILY? Is that the same cult-named-The-Family that River Phoenix et al grew up in? That shit is extremely, EXTREMELY FUCKED UP. I used to have a friend who had been extensively abused for years because he grew up connected to an outgrowth of it. I mean really, really, *crazy* abused.
