In a short q & a that ran two days ago, Wall Street Journal softballer John Jurgensen put the following pregnant question to My Blueberry Nights star Nora Jones: "Have you read any of your reviews?" To which Jones replied, "No. Never have, never will. This acting thing has been fun and if I never do it again, I had a great experience. If I do do it again, I hope I get better at it. But I don't have ambitions to conquer Hollywood or anything."

Not having seen the film, I can't evaluate her performance myself, but she sounds like a good sport at least. Who wouldn't take that opportunity if it came along, and who among us is completely impervious to criticism? And obviously she has other talents.

That would be Norah Jones, not Nora Jones ... no big deal but I was getting confused thinking there may be two.

I remember the scrutiny freaked out Bjork so much she vowed to never act again. As a one time performance though, DANCER IN THE DARK is one of the strangest, and one of my favorite ever.

It wasn't the scrutiny in Bjork's case -- she was going around telling people she was through with acting before the movie even premiered, saying that the shoot was one of the worst experiences of her life, von Trier was a sadist, she couldn't handle the emotional investment required, etc. etc. FWIW, she did eventually act again (in one of her boyfriend's overblown vanity pieces), but that's a rather loose definition of "acting".
As for Jones, I was dreading her performance in Nights, but in the end it's actually pretty inoffensive, mainly because Wong (or someone) was smart enough to have most of the drama happen around her instead of to her. I'm not entirely convinced she could handle a genuinely meaty role.
