Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008)
Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves'
Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign,
Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the
Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered:
Cloverfield was a major success.

I'm now starting to firmly believe that Hillary staying in the race is doing major damage to the democrat's chances in November. And if she pulls out the nomination I don't think we are going to see a democrat in the white house next year-- and that is a shame.
How do I know this? Because when someone like my wife, who several months ago was a firm Hillary supporter, not only switches over to Obama--now says if he doesn't get in she's voting for McCain--that's an issue. She isn't alone. I've heard that from many. I'm someone who hasn't voted for a republican candidate for anything since Bill Weld for governor back in 94, and I'm starting to think the same thing. I don't like how Hillary has handled things in the past several weeks and I'm not sure I could vote for her now if she got the nomination.
Hillary needs to understand--it isn't about hanging in until the bloody end anymore. She needs to get out to preserve the democrat vote. Every day she stays in the risk of McCain getting more votes increases. Did you ever think in a million years that guy would be our president? Well guess what--the chances are very real. Hillary bows out now, she may have a chance some day. She doesn't and she can forget about it forever. I don't even want to see her as the Vice President choice.

It's an issue of petulance and what the Koswhacks would disparage as "purity trolling." Any Democrat who would vote for McCain doesn't have a firm political alignment to begin with. It's the same Democrats I knew who voted for Bush in 2000 over Gore.

The issue is between a duechebag and a turd sandwich. And if the dueche gets in we may be better off with the turd sandwich.

Don't fret. This thing was over when McCain won the nomination. The majority of Americans may be just too afraid to abandon the old guard during a war. The in-fighting has done damage to the party - not just Hillary's side, the Obama supporters have been so sickening and strident in their hatred of her they've soured folks on Obama even. So yeah, stick a fork in it. White guy gets it. Again.

If Gore did a better job at not being a Bush-lite and separating himself from the Lewinsky scandal, he would've easily won. Christ, how can a guy who had a better economy than Bush's dad to boast of blow it so easily?
Zimmergirl: It ain't over 'til it's over.

Speaking of a Death Watch (from Nikki Finke):
I'm told #7 Stop-Loss opened to only $1.6 million Friday from just 1,291 plays and should eke out $4+M. Although the drama from MTV Films was the best-reviewed movie opening this weekend, Paramount wasn't expecting much because no Iraq war-themed movie has yet to perform at the box office. "It's not looking good," a studio source told me before the weekend. "No one wants to see Iraq war movies. No matter what we put out there in terms of great cast or trailers, people were completely turned off. It's a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that's unresolved yet. It's a shame because it's a good movie that's just ahead of its time."

So, if there is a 12 % chance for world peace should we quit fighting for it or still try our best?

Balthazar: Phillippe does not=great cast. And I doubt no one wants to see Iraq war movies as much as no one wants to see uninspired Iraq war movies.
