I'm sure the effects will be nice, the story brainless, and the actors hammy, but, seriously, who the heck cares about this movie? I mean, The Hulk, again? Really? Was there that much of a demand for this?
This and the new MUMMY seem to me the most, can we say, superfluous, of recent summer tentpoles.
I actually...um....LIKED Ang Lee's Hulk. It never really reconciles its art film tics with the demands of a blockbuster film, but it's frequently exhilarating, and almost berserk in its singularity (the dime-store Strindbergh duet with Bana and Nolte, the violent psychodrama played out in panels).
I have to agree with Rich S., I have no idea why this movie is being made. And why someone with Norton's talent and usually excellent choice in movies is tied to it.
He really must be desperate to hit it huge before slides into middle-age.
"And why someone with Norton's talent and usually excellent choice in movies is tied to it."
Apparently, Norton lobbied quite hard to be in the first one, and was upset it went to Bana. He's supposed to be a big comic dork.
I read an interview with Michael K. Williams in which he revealed that, because Norton is such a big fan of 'The Wire', he wrote a role specifically for him, *and* he (Williams) goes toe-to-toe with the big green guy.
The problem with Lee's Hulk (aside from its unnecessary, almost morbid focus on Daddy issues) is that Banner simply isn't an interesting character. I take that back - he's downright dull. Who cares what happens to him when the CGI'd Hulk is given more emotion and depth? Bana has nothing to do in the film, and though I found much to like about it at first gush, it's just too plodding and weighed down by the father stuff. It quickly became a film that I can't bear to sit through in its entirety, always ending up skipping to the action sequences on the dvd.
The new script is very different in that it's tight and fast and engaging. Like Norton announced at the comic con, it's more like the tv show in that it's about a likable, intelligent Banner on the run, and it reads much better than Lee's bloated one ever played.
I really like the first Hulk movie. That and Batman Begins are the two big superhero films I like. Hulk was inventive, so of course it must be bad. We want streamlined dross from our heroes, please don't ever surprise us!
A couple of things that worry me about this movie:
1) Louis Letterier - hopefully Norton will have reined in his more Transporter-ish ideas on this one. Transporter 2 is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
2) The "actioning up" of the Hulk - I agree Lee's movie got too ponderous at times, but the idea that the Hulk is the repressed anger of Banner's psyche, rather than just a monster he turns into, is fundamental to the character. I hope the new film doesn't go all "Hulk smash" at the expense of that.
3) The fact that only now, so close to release, are we getting a trailer. Hopefully this is because they were taking the time to get the extensive CG right.
Props to Marvel though for having the balls to reboot the Hulk story. Is a gutsy move.
moorish: Dunno about Transporter, but Danny the Dog(Unleashed) was one of the best movies I've ever seen. And rebooting the franchise was inevitable. He's a major character for Marvel, after all. Hell, they rebooted The Punisher, but that failed, because people thought the shaky camera-work in Kill Bill 2 was more worthwhile.

It's like a trailer for the trailer, actually.
It loads for me but goes by way to fast to get any sense of anything. Mostly I was looking for the Toronto locations they used...

There's not much there. It tells you to look out for the whole trailer on MTV Wednesday at 10.
It shows Norton with the Hulk contact lenses. Roth apparently right before he turns into the Abomination and Liv Tyler wearing glasses, etc.

And I'm looking forward to this one.

Yeah, Norton's a comic book dork. He asked the costume deisgner to make his character from "The Illusionist" look like Dr. Doom.

Well, this is Universal, after all...They haven't had any idea what they're doing in five years.
hatchet: That's funny, because I thought the dramatic moments were better than the action scenes.
