Mafioso (The Criterion Collection, 3.18.2008) Nino Badalamenti is a supervisor in a car manufacturing plant who hasn't taken a vacation in over two years. On his way out the door to visit his beloved childhood hometown of Sicily -- with his blonde wife and daughters -- Nino is handed a package by his boss and asked to deliver it to a powerful and influential Sicilian gangster named Don Vincenzo. Once in Sicily, Nino has a hoot seeing friends and family, but his wife has trouble fitting in and is unfairly dismissed as a snob by Nino's family. Even more worrisome, Nino finds himself entangled in an intricate web of secret mafioso dealings and is eventually sent on an unexpectedly... elaborate errand. (continued)

New Tracking

Tracking on 21 (opening Friday) has surged -- it's now at 72, 49 and 30, which should translate to somewhere north of $25 million and possibly up to $30 million. David Schwimmer's Run Fat Boy Run (Picturehouse) is at 62, 29 and 6. Kimberly Peirce's Stop-Loss is at 47, 29 and 9. Superhero Movie is running at 75, 31 and 13 -- decent numbers, fairly good business.

George Clooney's Leatherheads (4.4) is at 70, 37 and 11 or 12...not bad, will open decently. Nim's Island is at 52 27 and 3. The Ruins (also 4.4) is running at 46 , 22 and 2.

Prom Night (4.11) is at 58, 30 and 5. Smart People is at 34, 21 and 1. And David Ayer's Street Kings is now at 44, 34 and 4.

88 Minutes (4.18) is at 38, 37 and 4. The Forbidden Kingdom, a Jet Li-Jackie Chan martial-arts movie, is at 52, 43 and 8....promising. And Forgetting Sarah Marshall is running at 38, 28 and 2.

I just can't imagine 21 making that much dough opening weekend....

Really looking forward to Stop-Loss and Leatherheads; the rest, not so much...

Street Kings might be some good, nasty fun but smells like a rental...same with Sara Marshall....

I saw an ad last night for 88 Minutes....looks like pure shite

I'm hearing the Under the Same Moon had a record-breaking opening (largest opening weekend for a Spanish language movie ever) and is actually very good... haven't had a chance to see it yet, but the trailer looked very promising. What do people know about it?

I watched 88 MINUTES about 10 months ago. I really still can't believe it's getting a big theatrical release now. Great cast, piece of shit. I suppose Pacino just couldn't countenance a DTV. It is a slippery slope.

There is an Al Pacino DVD box set in which at least two, if not three, of the movies were direct to video. And he directed them too!

I'm guessing that there was something in their contracts for 'Righteous Kill' which guaranteed that the first Avnet/Pacino collaboration would be released first [the same way the Weinsteins were contractually obligated to hold back 'Jersey Girl' until some time after 'Gigli'; obviously, they felt it was advantageous to hold it back longer than that, but you get what I mena].

Yup, I think both of them are based on a play. It's not very cinematic to say the least. I have seen Chinese Coffee in TIFF back in 2000, and there is no way anyone can sell it to a wide audience.

I am going to check out Stop Loss and 21 this weekend. Saw Snow Angels last week and thought it's excellent.
