Mafioso (The Criterion Collection, 3.18.2008) Nino Badalamenti is a supervisor in a car manufacturing plant who hasn't taken a vacation in over two years. On his way out the door to visit his beloved childhood hometown of Sicily -- with his blonde wife and daughters -- Nino is handed a package by his boss and asked to deliver it to a powerful and influential Sicilian gangster named Don Vincenzo. Once in Sicily, Nino has a hoot seeing friends and family, but his wife has trouble fitting in and is unfairly dismissed as a snob by Nino's family. Even more worrisome, Nino finds himself entangled in an intricate web of secret mafioso dealings and is eventually sent on an unexpectedly... elaborate errand. (continued)

No Guts, No Glory

I'd love to be in the room when the Democratic Party bigwigs -- Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore, Bill Richardson, Chris Dodd, etc. -- finally find the backbone to stand up to Billary in a conference or hotel room somewhere and tell them, no wavering and no backtalk, that the race is over. Shut up, sit down and call it off...or pay the price for years to come. Sometime in mid May, I'm guessing, or maybe even after North Carolina. In the meantime, a new national poll from the Pew Research Center.

You don't corner Billary. You corner the spouse, i.e. Bill in this case, and show him whatever dirt you have or further threaten his legacy, and then let him convince Hillary.

Jeff, there's a new story about Rev. Wright and more "slurs" against ethnic groups. This might not go down well for Obama. They need to hide the good Reverend, send him in exile. You can't blame someone for the words of another, but this is not going down well with white America. it's just the fuel the Republicans need.

According to the Ohio exit polls, Kerry indeed should have won. Miraculously, the end result was different, but, hey, stuff happens when you have two Skull & Bones brothers competing against one another for the leadership of the free world.

Mgmax: fever swamp alert. Order another bucket of truck stop chicken before replying, por favor.

Chicago: Yeah, I just read about those slurs he made against Italians. But I don't think that will reflect as badly on Obama, since he did work with Rezko. Though I will say that Wright's a real asshole to be dragging down Obama with him. I know it's probably Hillary dredging up dirty laundry again, but couldn't that guy at least wait until after Obama's not running to make his comments?

York: "stuff happens when you have two Skull & Bones brothers competing against one another for the leadership of the free world."

And when one of them has Diebold on their side...

Jeff, what you're not getting is that they'll NEVER "stand up" to the Clintons because short of locking them both in a closet for the next year and a half there's NOTHING they can do to stop them.

The ONLY reason for them to get out is "for the good of the party." Well, spoiler-alert: THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE GOOD OF THE PARTY. Hillary is on record talking about "taking it to the convention floor." That's a death-threat. If Hillary isn't the nominee, they will spend the entire election quietly DESTROYING Obama's campaign from the sidelines (like they're already doing, or are we naive enough to think that the Rev. Wright stuff came from ANYWHERE else?) They'll WANT McCain to win so that she can say "see? That's what happens when you go with a losing horse!" to the Dems and then spend 4 years building up massive clout to run in 2012. The Clintons WILL destroy the Democrat Party if they have to, without hesitation.

And here's the part you REALLY don't wanna hear: It'll work. Obama's best effort has FAILED to diffuse the Wright situation, proof once and for all that he's just not ready to swing at big league pitching yet. Maybe he can beat Hillary. MAYBE he can beat McCain. But he can't beat BOTH of them at the same time.

Why should she get out? Obama wont have another racist Pastor in his background? He wont blow up? Its not like shes getting blown out here. She should fight to the convention so she can split the party and let McCain win like a good American.

Here's what Dean says:

WASHINGTON — Democratic Party chief Howard Dean says Barack Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton and their supporters should beware of tearing each other down, demoralizing the base and damaging the party's chances of winning the White House in November.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Dean also said he hopes the Democratic nominee will be determined shortly after the voting ends in early June and that he will encourage the superdelegates who will play a role to make up their minds before the August convention in Denver.

Dean said the charges and countercharges between Clinton and Obama have gotten too personal at times. He declined to say how they have crossed the line, but he said he's made it clear privately when it has happened.

"You do not want to demoralize the base of the Democratic Party by having the Democrats attack each other," he said Thursday during the interview in his office at Democratic National Committee headquarters. "Let the media and the Republicans and the talking heads on cable television attack and carry on, fulminate at the mouth. The supporters should keep their mouths shut about this stuff on both sides because that is harmful to the potential victory of a Democrat.
