Sunday numbers

10,000 B.C. was projected to earn $32 million yesterday morning, but yesterday's ticket-sale surge has resulted in a slight adjustment -- it's now expected to earn $35.3 million. The completely repulsive College Road Trip is looking at $13.8 million by tonight as opposed to yesterday's forecast of $12.5 million. The Bank Job has notched up also -- projected to earn a weekend tally of $4,980,000 yesterday, it's now looking at $5.5 million. (But it should have done better, being far and away the best-quality film to have opened two days ago.)

I saw 10,000 BC on Saturday. The girl I was with was far more entertaining. I told her before we bought the tickets "Lets just go back to my house and watch Independence Day on VHS." I was rooting for the Wooly Mammoths. The movie was absolutely horrendous. Good special effects though....

"Surge"? More like "projection fuck-up."

A surge is what you get when the numbers have been steady for several days and then spike. The prognosticators put themselves on thin ice when they decided to project an entire weekend based on Friday numbers alone. They were already on somewhat thin ice when they began to use Saturday numbers to predict Sunday in order to make the Monday morning news cycle.

There was no surge, just a to be expected counter-intuitive outcome.

Oh, and riddle me this, Paul Dergarabedian: if whenever a film doesn't do as well as expected on a weekend when a major storm also hits, how come you have this "surge" during while there's a blizzard going on? It's not like when there's rain and people will go to cinema to escape being cooped up at home.

I'm sorry, Wells, but I believe that The Bank Job would be twenty times better with more wild overgrown ostrich chases. The people have spoken.

THE SURGE HAS FAILED! THE SURGE HAS FAILED!

Oops, sorry, thought I was in a political post again ;-).

Don't forget, the surge also comes from it being Daylight Savings Weekend, with theaters losing that one whole hour. That's one half less a showing of College Road Trip on Sunday ALONE!!!

Wells calls College Road Trip "completely repulsive." Did he see it?

(I'm not implying it's a good movie. I'm asking if Wells, in using such strong language, has seen the movie.)

College Road Trip was rated G. That guarantees it a certain segment of the audience, provided the marketing is handled right.

The Bank Job was fucking awesome. Best film Roger Donaldson has done in years, maybe ever. Tight plotting, exciting direction, extremely entertaining. Such a shame that more people couldn't be bothered to see such a classic heist movie like this. The movie is sexy as hell.

That's now 0-2 for a certain buffoon who got a credit on this film. While I saw it, and thoroughly enjoyed it, I'm really happy it bombed. I LOVE KARMA.

I was dragged along by my daughter (a college junior) to "College Road Trip". Jeff is being
way, way too kind, calling it repulsive.
But it is remarkable, in its own misbegotten
way....a Perfect Storm convergence of two of the
most grindingly obnoxious performers who ever
stepped in front of a camera. There are few
experiences to compare with watching Martin
Lawrence and Raven-Symone together. Hmm, maybe
a wide awake colonoscopy...red hot needles being
driven through your eyes...a George W.Bush speech
..just a few that come to mind.

the bank job is SMASHING! Mike's Murder has one of the finest of Debra Winger performances.
