Paramount is showing Iron Man (opening 5.2) to select press (guys doing long-lead interviews with Robert Downey, Jon Favreau, Jeff Bridges, etc.) but playing things close to the chest when you call about screenings. It will be shown, of course, to journos attending the New York junket, but that's not until 4.25, or 12 days from now. It will also be shown, I'm told, at an L.A. all-media at the Arclight on Monday, 4.28.

This is a great example of how the American public school system is failing our youth. They don't even know how to spell "Corporate Piece of Shit" correctly anymore.

Burma, I've asked p.Vice that same question on numerous occassions and he/she has never provided a response.
My guess is nothing considering that every single time they post a comment it's more-or-less something negative.

saw iron man last week: hot hot hot. hardly anyone will be disappointed, it's fast and fun and RDJ is a huge asset, basically a science geek with a rock star lifestyle.
the effects are essentially seamless.
the spine of the story is borrowed from batman begins - we get wrapped up in tony stark's story, rather than the guy in the suit, and we watch as he puts his identity together, just like bale did.
the whole thing has a cheeky, contempo sense of fun (except for a talky patch around the 80/90 minute mark) as well as plenty of middle east riffs (one supporting character dies with his head resting on a big sack of aid food!)
the end battle does feel slightly 'stunted', but that could be a deliberate lowering of the bar for the sequel, which will no doubt be loaded with armour action.

I know it's off topic, but I just finished reading, LOW DWELLER. Anyone else read? Opinions? Jeff, I know you did a blog entry about the first few pages a few weeks ago. Any other final thoughts on script? Overall, just like when Zach Helm (STRANGER THAN FICTION) was beknighted by agents/development people several years ago, I was a bit underwhelmed.

Pure jealousy. And yeah, I'd be interested in what films you do like, pvice.

Thanks Soap and Water! very good to hear from someone who has seen iit. I do hope it is successful enough to have a few more made. And note to p. vice. you must have gotten lost on your way to the AICN message board. This is abit different here. People don't just try to see who can be the most crude or the most negative.

I can't wait...
I saw IRON MAN yesterday. I have never read the comic and know almost nothing about the character. But I had seen some clips of Downey developing the suit and was amused. Well I can report the movie is terrific. It is a thinking person's superhero film with more character development than special effects and action scenes (though there are plenty of those which are nicely balanced so we get involved in the story rather than bored by non-stop effects.). Downey is terrific...funny, smart and charming...and very buff. Paltrow seems right out of 60's superhero comics or Money Penny from early Bond: proper and subservient assistant who is smart below the surface and more than a little enamored of her boss.
It should be a hit but 200 million is a long way to go when it is undercut in subsequent weeks by more blockbusters.
The opening robbery scene from DARK KNIGHT promised a terrific, critical hit, a ten minute scene from HANCOCK promises a very different superhero movie with Will Smith but footage from THE INCREDIBLE HULK played very flat.

Iron Man was always my favorite comic when I was a kid. They appear to be hitting all the beats and adding interest to Tony Stark, who frankly was always kind of a bland Howard Hughes type. It will be interesting to see how they handle Stark's alcoholism in the sequels. Plus, most of Iron Man's classic villains were Red Scare and Yellow Peril types. Bringing in Stane for the first round was a good idea. I'm betting the Mandarin for part 2.

Mind you the 500lb gorilla nobody seems to want to acknowledge is that the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise drops three days before IRON MAN. Could it eat into the opening weekend's take? Generally the same audience.
