For Republicans out to smear Barack Obama, no tactic is too low or slimey, as Floyd Brown's new Willie Horton ad attests. Brown created the original Horton ad that was credited with being one of the two big things that sank Michael Dukakis's candidacy in 1988. (The other was the video of Dukakis riding in that army tank wearing a Rocky-the-squirrel helmet.)

The only change I'd make to your post is "For Republicans (and some Democrats) out to smear Barack Obama..."

Maybe I'm deluding myself, but this ad doesn't seem anywhere near as bad as the original wille horton ad... And I suspect it wouldn't have as much traction nationwide. America's feelings towards capital punishment is more ambivalent than it has ever been... I'm not sure this will have the visceral, knee-jerk response that the horton ad did because people's feelings about the issue are more complicated...
That said, I hope, I PRAY, that the presidential campaign does not devolve into some kind of campaign where the candidates out-tough each other by letting people know how many people they will kill on death row. Am I the only one who sitll hasn't forgiven Bill Clinton for flying back to Arkansas during the 1992 campaign to ensure a mentailly retarded man was executed (he was the guy that chose to, during his final meal, "save his dessert for later")?

It was easier to respect American politics before the internet allowed us foreigners to follow the campaigns day-to-day. This ad is disgusting, Hillary wanting to wipe Iran off the map is insane, judging candidates on bowling skills, flag pins nd guilt by assosiation, rewarding bloodlust with votes... It would have been comical if it wasn't so saddening.

So...how many people out there believe those 80,000 new donors who contributed to Clinton's $10-mil Wed. take were actually Democrats?...

As far as Republicans voting for Clinton, it's no different when that political moron Kos tried to get Michigan Dems to crossover vote for Republican Romney to create "chaos."

From The Nation article: "The ad, set to run in North Carolina, all-but accuses Obama of murder....The new ad, of course, is intending to scare, not inform."
From the ad: "Can a man so weak in the war on gangs be trusted in the war on terror?"
I'm having a hard time figuring out who's more brain dead here. It's having to defend Quiet Riot from the PMRC. I think both sides should be sent to their room and not come out to play until they grow up a little.

Um, I suppose that should be "It's *like* having to defend Quiet Riot..." Great, now I've had to refer to them twice.

Very true.
Can you imagine how it's going to be if Obama gets the nomination?
You have to take a test to get a driver's license, but any idiot can vote. And many do. Many, many do.
