After Scientology

"I have the luxury of having [been in] Scientology, and after having been in it, gotten out. And that's a perspective [that] people who are in it, do not have. I think it's destructive and a ripoff, and very, very dangerous for your health. I think it stunts your evolution. I think the farther you go up the bridge, the worse you get. That's what I see." -- Jason Beghe, TV actor.

Any religion which demands so much of you, hides it's secrets and only reveals them as you pay is full of shit and lies.

It's no surprise that Scientology would have been a scarier experience for Jason Beghe than being stalked by a homicidal helper monkey.

AH, lot's of religions ask you to tithe, but they don't force you, nor do most of the mainstream religions hide the awsome goodies until you pay. I've never been in a Sinagogue, Presbyterian or Catholic Church where I was kicked out for not dropping some $ in the basket. Nor was I asked to pay an extra admission to hear the special truths behind the curtain.

Jason Beghe as in HBO's 1rst and 10 Jason Beghe?
It's hard to tell whether some of the former Cult Members are genuinely sickened by their past association or just sour grapes for not having the career they thought they would after joining.

I went to High School with the child of Cult Members. His name was Emile M., and he was very enamored of himself. That's the one thing I find true across the board with Cult Members. They evince no humility, have no sense of modesty, and the idea of being self-deprecating is beyond them. They are robots, just as all extremists of any type are.

But Scientology is here to say. It's not going anywhere. And once they get a foothold in 3rd world nations...Oh. My. God. We haven't seen anything yet.

There isn't enough money for them there.

Anyone who thinks there isn't any difference between a mainstream religion and a cult like Scientology should read this:

http://www.scientology-lies.com/press/chicago-reader/death-of-a-scientologist.html

Note the part where the Scientologists kick him out because he's broke, and a Christian takes him in. Not that there aren't some shitbag Christians out there, not that there may not be a lot to dislike about any religion, but find me a charitable Scientologist sometime. Just one.

If you think that video exposes Scientology for what they are, check this out:

http://www.xenutv.com/interviews/astra-1.htm

After hearing this girl's story, Scientology should not just have its title of "religion" taken away but be brought up on multiple charges as well.

Sick stuff.

There are scientologists like this all over, in every country. But the scientologists who live in Pennsylvania will probably be voting for Clinton or McCain.

Good for him - more people should have the guts to publicly come out against it. I wonder how much dough he had to sink into it to finally see the bullshit for what it is.

Here in Norway now, there's a big stink about Scientology. It seems the daughter of an MP committed suicide in France after taking a Scientology "personality" test. Of course, she had an almost decade long history of mental illness and eating disorder, but never mind - she took one of those tests that I guess correctly pointed out that she was depressed. Two hours later she tosses herself out the window. Now everyone's out to get Scientology. No one would dare to attack and ridicule any other religion like this. It's just because this "cult" is extra loopy that it feels ok. Beghe is getting interviewed by Norwegian media now. Personally I think the whole thing is extremely undignified by her familiy, who want to blame someone, anyone for their kid being fucked up.

"Any religion is full of shit and lies." *fixed Andrew's post for accuracy.

Scientology isn't a religion. When they start stoning raped women and homosexuals to death or burning people accused of witchcraft, then they can call themselves a religion.

Christianity (or any other major religion) and Scientology may not produce the same behaviors, but I don't think one set of beliefs is less nutty than the others.

The difference is that Scientology was born in the age of the printing press (like Mormonism) and is, therefore, much more easily traced to its roots and declared rubbish.
