Warner Bros. recently decided to bump Ken Kwapis's He Just Not That Into You, a thirtysomething relationship drama produced by New Line, from 8.1.08 to 10.24.08. This is not that big of a deal. Tremors are not shaking the china.
Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Connolly,Bradley Cooper and Justin Long costar. Set in Baltimore, overlapping storylines, all the lonely people. Probably not a masterpiece but there's something very alluring about that title (which is based on a book by Greg Behrendt). Other costars are Ginnifer Goodwin, Wilson Cruz and Brooke Bloom.
An IMDB poster who claims to have seen it says the following: (a) Scarlett plays her usual sexpot/seductress role; (b) Jennifer Aniston plays a woman who wants to get married; (c) Jennifer Connelly is a newlywed and control freak (and has a couple funny scenes); (d) Ginnifer Goodwin plays the hapless single girl looking for love; (e) Drew Barrymore is a single girl looking for love online; and (f) Justin Long plays the love guru giving advice.
Alleged factoids: (a) Scarlett sings in this movie and not that badly!; (b) No there is no nudity; (c) All the Jennifers and Ginnifer appear in scenes together; (d) Scarlett and the other Jennifers and Ginnifer do not have any scenes together; (e) Behrendt has a cameo; (f) Drew and Justin do not have any scenes together; (f) They don't use the phrase 'he's just not that into you' in the film.

Flop.
Alone, these women draw about 3 people to a movie theater. Together, they could pull in 10.

So, the film stars Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Connelly and Drew Barrymore and there's no nudity? Yep, I'm definitely waiting until it comes out on DVD.

When are studios going to stop hiring Jennifer Aniston? She's proved time and time again that she cant open a theatrical film (and she's a very minor talent to boot).
She's also pushing 40 which was the end for Meg Ryan's career (if one can find a correlation ... besides Meg's lip job).
A tv actress thru and thru. She doesnt need the cash so she wont do another tv show.

To be honest she only has a very small role, so I wont be putting this flop on her list. Her next film Management, however looks like a pile of crap.

Totally agree on Aniston. Her charms are only
visible to studio execs who keep putting her
in feature films.
Her career trajectory kind of reminds me
of Penelope Ann Miller and Monica Potter
-babes-du-jour for about a year and a half before
being farmed out to direct-to-video and then finally total obscurity.

Behrendt based his book on an episode of Sex & The City that he co-wrote. He also parlayed the book's success into a flop TV talk show. So now we have a movie based on a book based on a sitcom episode/slash failed talk show. Genius!

What the hell kind of name is Ginnifer? That just reeks of junior high affectation, either that or she has alcoholic parents.

Well bmcintire, The Break Up was ONE film with a strong male actor, after she left Friends in 2004 she has been pushed in our throat by media and Hollywood publicist as the next big thing.
Rachel Mcadams has a much better record than Aniston

The media push happened long before FRIENDS ended. I'm not necessarily a fan of hers, but THE BREAK-UP was her last film, which leaves her on an upward trajectory. RUMOR HAS IT was her only true flop post Friends-era (which even though it opened to a measly $7M, managed to do six times that number before closing) and even that had to be shared with a strong male actor - Kevin Costner.
And please find a correlary to the two titles below in Penelope Anne Miller's or Monica Potter's career trajectories:
ALONG CAME POLLY (2004)
Opening Weekend
$32,450,825 (USA)
Gross
$87,856,565 (USA)
BRUCE ALMIGHTY (2003)
Opening Weekend
$85,734,045 (USA)
Gross
$242,589,580 (USA) (19 October 2003)

Aside from the Anniston factor, HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU feels like it is coming about a year and a half too late. Berendt already wore out the welcome with his stand-up and book on the subject on pretty much every morning television show and FM station in the country quite awhile ago.

Comon bmcintire, she no even had her face in the BRUCE ALMIGHTY posters, you know that it was a Carrey vehicle, whats next ? Tea Leoni carried Fun with Dick and Jane? She is not a draw. Also, I am sorry if its cruel, but she will be 40 next year, can you see her getting romantic roles in the next two or three years?

moviemaniac: If it was just studio execs who supported her, she'd never be in "Office Space" or "The Good Girl".
juligen: The only thing Vince Vaughn before "The Break-Up" did was an R-rated comedy. Hardly rom-com material.

POLLY and BRUCE were included only to debunk the Miller/Potter syndrome.

LOL, I agree. He told himself that If Gone Baby Gone flopped he would be in a bad situation, I am not telling it wasnt a good experience, but a hit is always a good career moment.

Jennifer Aniston is a star. You can deny it all you want, but it's true.
Rachel McAdams was in four hits in a row, but then stopped working. Her next likely hit is "State of Play" which costars Russell Crowe and -- Ben Affleck.

The commenter on IMDB who saw the screening also said:
"Both Jennifers are excellent in this movie."
Seems to me that somebody dropped the ball and this movie was just plain not ready for release in August. There's no trailer yet nor poster and no buzz. I can wait till October 'cause I think it'll be a good one.

But Kwapis has directed episodes of the American version of THE OFFICE--and I'm guessing he was hired for that reason.

Jen is not a movie star. TV star yes who gets a ton of mag covers. If Julia roberts and Sandy bullock who have had monster hits that they carried (no vince vaughn, no jim carrey) are finding it hard to find roles in their early 40s Jen can hang it up. She has no range.

Roberts pretty much plays herself in everything she does, even in Ocean's 11 and Erin Brokovich. And every time Bullock stars in something new, people forget she existed. Aniston can at least get away with doing an Office Space or Derailed and not have a bomb on her hands.
