Come the fall Steven Soderbergh will direct The Girlfriend Experience -- a 14-day quickie about "the world of prostitution from the vantage point of a $10,000-a- night call girl" (according to Variety's Michael Fleming). This will probably be one of Soderbergh's interesting sidelight films, most likely. Soderbergh, who "gets" women, hasn't mined this turf enough.
But it's a 2929 Entertainment whatsis movie (Mark Cuban, Todd Wagner, HD Net) so let's keep things in perspective. I say this as a huge fan of Bubble, by the way. As far as I'm concerned Bubble was Soderbergh's big comeback film after being in a slump for God knows how many years. Soderbergh will direct The Informant with Matt Damon for Warner Bros. before doing the Girlfriend thing,

says ...Very curious about The Informant.
Bubble, for what it was, was rather perfect I thought. Not an "audience picture" by any means but really, really well done.
The Girlfriend Experience has potential; however, I don't like the idea that's floating around that Soderbergh is gonna cast a porn star in the lead role. That would be stupid. Cast a hot, young, unknown actress instead.
I seem to be one of the only people in the world who finds Full Frontal to be hysterical.

says ...Appreciated Bubble, but I'd never watch it again and when I think of Soderbergh films I had completely forgotten it until just now.
I *really* wish he'd do an honest crime film again (honest as in not an Ocean's movie) -- Out of Sight was so good. The Informant has my interest, however...

says ...Bubble was a great expereiment and surprise, but Solaris was much better. I don't think that Soderbergh has been in a slump at all. There IS room for good popcorn movies.

It's lack of structure eventually frustrates me, but it is pretty fun, and has a lot of great performances to carry it (not enough Duchovny, but David Hyde-Pierce is *always* good).

says ...He doesn't need to cast a porn star to make this movie work. He needs to cast the hottest girl in America to make this work, and that would be Amber Heard.
Bubble is Soderberg's 3rd best movie after his masterpiece, which is The Limey, and then Schizopolis. You can take Traffic and Erin Brockovich and Sex, Lies...and, as that whiny black solder with foot rot in Platoon says, shove them up your ass. When Soderberg is on he is one of the best, and he is ON the entirety of The Limey. I still get goosepimples every time the Terry Valentine/King Midas in Reverse montage begins.
But seriously, Amber Heard. Or, if you are going to cast a real porn star, Emma Redd or Bree Olsen. Too bad Ashley Blue isn't 21 anymore. Ashley Blue is the Greatest Porn Star of All-Time.
I'm a real creep right now.
Gotta go punish myself by plucking out of ear hairs with an old rusty pair of tweezers.

says ...Good to hear Bubble get some love. The cross-examination scene alone is one of the best of its kind. Truly remarkable that Soderbergh was able to create such an environment on set where totally non-trained actors could react completely naturally and even push themselves into very raw territory.

says ..."Didn't they make The Informant already? Wasn't it called The Insider?"
They're pretty significantly different (or, the true stories are, anyway); the hero in 'The Informant' goes insane due to his paranoia and winds up in prison longer than the people he's informing on.
'The Insider' was mainly about the struggle to get the information out via a complacent news media.
