Is there any guy in the civilized world who wouldn't feel at least a slight twinge of concern if a woman he's just met has confessed she doesn't use deodorant?

That's just one more thing Julia Roberts and I have in common. I have the same stick I used in middle school. It's useless. Two showers a day helps. Sorry water conservationists.

Body odor is genetic. Some people have it and require preventive tools to combat. Others are blessed high cheeks bones, extra teeth, and armpits that emit vanilla extract.

My wife does not use deodorant. During the summer our apartment smells like the inside of a Mosque during the peak of Mecca. When I tell her that she doesn't smell that good she tells me that she'll start using deodorant when I start trimming my pubic hair. But I do trim my pubic hair. She knows this. She also knows that I hate it when she wears Birkenstocks. This is who you married, she likes to tell me. But the girl I remember wanting to marry was the girl who used to meet me at bars wearing pink tube tops and high heels. That girl is gone, she tells me. She is never coming back. I went to bed with Anne Dusenberry and woke up with Shelley Duvall.

It's no mystery. it's a matter of bacteriology. It depends how much of a moist incubator your armpits are, what your dermatological pH is, and how bacteria cotton to growing on the epithelia of your skin.

In general, men are more odiferous, and to me at least, not attractive beginning with their smell. I once heard a famous Ohio lesbian wax poetic about the sweet estrogen smell that effuses from women. I'm all for that. I would imagine Julia has that chemistry.
