Hey, with good word of mouth, Clooney can still get a first down, and at least emerge with a field goal at the end of this. It's not like it's 4th and Long or anything.
Personally, I think we're just in the middle of an End Around.
Remember when zillions of reviewers thought they were Captain Hilarious by calling the third pirates movie "at wit's end"? Yes, people got paid to write that.

You stated the obvious and the obvious occurred.
When would you like your parade?

I'm with Jeffrey on this, no parade necessary; just stating the facts as he sees them. Lazy writing is lazy writing.

All right Clooney, the gloves are off - it's the bottom of the ninth, fourth and long, and you're looking at a full-court press.

What blowback factor? You know it's gonna be the headline on Variety.

I was so close! Dammit! I could use that parade.
Of course, EW used the pun for their review. Think they'll do it again for the BO round up?

Jeff:
Was the reason it failed have anything to do with Clooney being too thin (as McLovin was in Superbad)?
Might as well go to the expert on how to 'physically appear' in a major motion picture.
Still trying to figure out why Jeff lumped Adrian Brody in with Brad Pitt in his 'hunks of the cinema' piece..
