Which is awesome for us Obama supporters, because the insurrections in history have always been led by the educated and priviledged upper class. Uh huh.
Boo-frickety-hoo. The Democrat Party got itself into this mess, eyes wide open, and they'll pay the logical price.
They had FOUR FUCKING YEARS to get they're act together for this. They should've had a ready-built, vetted nominee set up and ready to rock over a year ago and the WHOLE machine already timed to deliver the most-beneficial result. Instead they've let the naive young idealists run away with the nomination process to a degree not seen since George McGovern. PATHETIC.
Gore won't run, because the only time people paid attention to him was when he did "An Inconvenient Truth". Again, if experience made a difference, he would've been able to win by a landslide in 2000. And no, young people do not like Gore. Copies of Rolling Stone with his picture on them did not fly off the shelves, and we ended up favoring a guy who was his senior by 15 years: Ralph Nader. Hillary and Barack attract newcomers, while Gore will probably only attract people who regret being stupid enough to vote for Bush. You might complain about Obama being a bad debater, but if Gore runs, we'll get more tree jokes.

That could only have worked had that "machine candidate" not been Hillary Clinton. Even before this campaign, she had too many negatives on her plate.
I think John Edwards might have been able to pull it off, but when the media decided to make this campaign strictly Clinton vs. Obama, you knew things were going to devolve along racial/gender lines.
The GOP ad in North Carolina starts the bullshit. Of course McCain didn't do much to stop it, and of course Fox News pimped it out. It only gets worse. I will be staying home on Nov. 4th.
Would someone mind explaining this cartoon to me? Is it supposed to be that the Dems' split is causing a fracture that icould destroy liberty? Or is it that the Dems' split isn't that big a deal, as we end up winning the Revolutionary War anyway, and all we end up with is a crack in a monument that most people don't care about anyway?
The only point of the cartoon is that the Liberty Bell is in Pennsylvania, like the election was. The famous crack in the Bell has long been a metaphor that no one really wants to deal with about democracy and freedom in a capitalist, patriarchal society
I just wanted to add that, besides losing the 2000 election to Bush, Gore lost the '88 party nomination to Dukakis. Du-friggin'-kakis! The biggest pushover candidate since Ford. There is no way a guy like that is going to win against McCain. He'll be clobbered so badly, it'll take him another eight years to consider running.
Doug, thanks for the explanation. I figured the artist did it because of the primary's location, but it seemed like such an obvious and lazy jump, with no real point of view.
But I still don't get what the crack is supposed to represent. Is it supposed to be that the Dem's split is the only thing keeping us from true liberty? But, how can that be the case if the split is basically about people ACTUALLY acting on their point of view in a vote. If Hillary had dropped out, Pennsylvania wouldn't have had a choice, ergo no real freedom/liberty.
Anyway, I think the point I'm coming to is that this cartoon sucks, and Jeff's saying "Yeah" to it suggests that he doesn't understand it either, but thinks it's a crack at Hillary so therefore a good message.

Yes, it's such a tragedy when actual people snatch the democratic process out of the hands of the political machine's elite...

Interesting article Mgmax.
If we can't have Obama...This would be a formidable ticket: A. Gore and Newark mayor Cory Booker.
