Huffington Post's Hillary Rosen has reported that at last night's "All Things Digital" conference in Carlsbad, California, media bigwig and staunch conservative Rupert Murdoch said that Barack Obama "is a rock star...I love what he is saying about education [and] I think he will win and I am anxious to meet him."

John McCain, he added, "is a friend of mine. But I think he's got a lot of problems. He has been in Congress a long time, and you have to make a lot of compromises. So what's he really stand for?... I think he has a lot of problems."

The myth of the conservative news media, retired forever.

It's never been about the liberal or conservative media (although there are many liberal and conservative figures there - take Obermann and O'Reilly, please - take them!).

It's about money, pure and simple.

Murdoch's media outlets have touted the laws that have helped him make his media empire what it is. These include the loosening of ownership rules on newspapers, radio and television stations in individual markets.

Murdoch knows a good thing when he sees it. That doesn't mean that Fox News is going to stop calling Hilary Clinton a murderer (here's looking at you, Sean) or be any less polarizing.

Murdoch has never put all of his eggs in a single basket. If he can come around on Tom Cruise, after thinking that maybe he COULD open a movie again, then he is going to not be an adversary to Obama, at least not openly.

I don't expect the WSJ or Fox to start playing favorites for Obama now. Remember, that McCain is not a conservative favorite. It may be that they would rather have a liberal to attack in the White House than a Republican who they don't support on many issues.

This is nothing new. See Citizen Kane for more details.

Wasn't Rupert making nice with Hillary earlier this year? Maybe he can sense which way the wind is blowing?

Rupes chose wrong when he used Fox News to launch Mayor Rudy and Olympic Mitt. By backing these two horses, he had his Fox News goofs talk trash about McCain. So there's no way he can make complete nice with McMaverik.

Bill Murray to Letterman, many years ago: "My teenage son will back any team that's winning. And he'll drop them in a heartbeat if they start losing."

Letterman: "I'm glad to see you're raising him with the right values."

is extra creepy that Hilary Rosen is reporting this since she was the head of the RIAA who decided to go sue crazy against P2P people.

Glad to see none of the Hillar Youth are yelping about what this means about Obama, since Murdoch threw fundraisers for her a year ago.

A couple of month ago, I saw Rupert Murdoch on C-Span, giving a talk to and then taking questions from Georgetown University students.

Mr. Murdoch possessed an impressive trenchancy of mind, and was quite articulate in answering and parrying nettlesome questions away. He was the antithesis of a suit who just moves assets and paper around. And I say this as a Liberal with a distaste for Fox News.

Yes, he is biased towards what is best for News Corp. But if Mr. Murdoch is betting on Obama, it's probably a sure thing.

He has to be a genius, since few people can be so successful at peddling stupidity.
