It's not that this red-band trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening (20th Century Fox, 6.13) has footage that's especially jolting. But it feels more engrossing (being eerier, grabbier, more fluidly cut) than the teasers and trailers have come before. Here are the Windows, Quicktime and Real Player versions.

I think this looks creepy and awesome. I love that it's rated R and I love that M. Night is working with Tak Fujimoto again. Despite some recent bad buzz, I am really looking forward to this. Looks mean and nasty.

I keep waiting for M. Night Shyamalan to live up to his potential but his films seem to be getting steadily worse, in my opinion. I've heard nothing but bad things about this flick; word from early screenings, friends with the script all say that it's laughably bad.
I always hope for good things from filmmakers, I hope it's not as bad as I've heard, but it doesn't sound too promising.

Definitely the best trailer I've seen so far; I actually want to see this movie now.
And is it just me or is Zooey Deschanel cuter than a fucking button?

M. Night might buy his own hype a little too much but he's still a consistently interesting filmmaker, even in misfires like The Village. The Happening looks pretty vague but I'd much rather see this than just about anything else coming out next month. Not sure about that earth, wind, and fire cartoon he's apparently doing next, tho...

I don't think his films have gotten progressively worse. Lady in the Water was pretty bad, but in an interesting way, and nowhere near as big a turd as The Village.

The Village was garbage ("But coyotes can't reach that high!"), but I actually sort of liked Lady in the Water. I guess I went in with diminished expectations, but I accepted it for what it is: a modest, succinct, well-told fable. And it's a genuinely original piece of work, for the most part.

I haven't been able to take this movie remotely seriously ever since my friend pointed out that Mark Wahlberg is acting exactly -- EXACTLY -- the same as Dirk Diggler acts whenever he gets in front of a camera.
It's uncanny.

I agree with what actionman said.
"I think this looks atrocious and unintentionally silly. It doesn't matter that it's rated R or that M. Night is working with Tak Fujimoto again. In spite of some recent bad buzz, I am really not looking forward to this. Looks stupid and boring."
Spot on actionman.

The script was highly readable. Wonderful setup, slow suspenseful roll-out. I was never bored (which is rare)
...on a totally unrelated note - I don't post much here, but has anyone commented on the fact that the drawing of actor Alberto Sordi for the movie Mafioso, advertised to the left, looks incredibly like that of character actor Keenan Wynn? I've been meaning to mention it.

Somebody who read it spoiled the ending for me.
I won't tell, except to say that anybody who thought that the ending of "Wicker Man" was the pinnacle of hilariously dumb endings should buy their tickets now. People (like me) who enjoy that sort of thing will be remembering this movie for years.

My Quicktime download stalled at the exact point when the lion is ripping the guys arm off. So that was cool.

What do you get when you cross Lassie with a pit bull?
A dog that will rip your arm off and then run to get help.
Maybe M. Night will put that in the movie.

When you exactly know what is killing them, the trailer turns into an unintentionable laugh riot.

That would be cool if Mark Walhberg was infected with some kind of airborn virus that kept spreading and causing people to kill themselves wherever he went.
