Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Interesting Fellow

Modest and likable and decent though he may be (okay, is), this is not the real John McCain. Or it is and it's not enough. A charming, low-key guy selling misguided, outmoded, old-school medicine. Nice to talk to, but inwardly snarly and obstinate and, in a decent-American-on-a-Sunday-morning sort of way, blind.

McCain is no longer about the straight talk. It's just a shame their aren't as many reporters willing to tell a candidate to get back in the chair.

McCain's principles are gone. he realized that the Real John McCain couldn't come close to winning in 2000. So he's become George W Bush with a war record and a rich wife instead of a sugar daddy.

One second he attacks the holy rollers and now he's begging to be endorsed by a guy who swears New Orleans was wiped out because they were hosting a gay parade? Like his Stepford Wife, McCain has become the Stepford Candidate. Even with the race over, over a quarter of NC didn't want to vote for him.

I'm an Obama supporter, but I genuinely think the John McCain you see on the Daily Show is a lot closer to the McCain you would hypothetically see in the White House over the McCain we're going to see in the general election.

If he does manage to win the general I think we'll see a return to the John McCain who pissed of Conservatives 8 years ago. I don't think he's lost his morals -- he's just put them on the back-burner to help himself get elected (which is why if I were a Conservative I'd be really nervous about voting for the guy).

If McCain really does intend to only run a single term he'll have *nobody* to answer to and he can choose to be as straight a shooter as he's been in the past. He'll be thinking of his legacy from Day 1.

I completely agree Krazy Eyes... which is why, if Obama loses to McCain, it'll hardly be the same level of disaster as it was in the last two elections when Bush won. At the very least, that's somewhat comforting.

Jon Stewart is sort of dead to me now. For a few seconds I thought he was actually going to nail him with a Hagee question, but then he had to go and make the (admittedly funny) Bush joke. Never thought I'd be praying for Bill Maher to get five minutes with McCain, but I am now.
