Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008)
Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves'
Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign,
Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the
Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered:
Cloverfield was a major success.

Looks like madcap fun. People will bitch and moan (can hear it already) that it's not like NCFOM but it looks fun and clever and crazy. I've never seen a Coen Brothers film I didn't like so...

actionman: My interest level went up after seeing Sledge Hammer's appearance. David Rasche makes everything better.

has anyone watched The Ladykillers lately? remember how absolutely everybody called it a fumble?
put it on last night and it's sublime... comfortably among their best.
for starters, the score mixes gospel, hip-hop and renaissance (plinky, plunky harpsichord sort of stuff).
how irma hall missed out an oscar nom, fuck that, an oscar win, is a mystery.
honest to god, put it on again and watch closely... you'll freak.

The Ladykillers is hysterical. Loved it when I saw it in the theater. Seen it multiple times since then. Don't understand the hate that it produces in people.

Comments posted are tangential to the subject which is the photo and Jeffrey's melancholy adieu to Paris. There really is nothing like Paris. Worth all the slaps of the face.
Merci Jeffrey

exactly.
the funny thing is, without LKs as the obvious 'worst Coens' film' to point to, their output is essentially made up of this perfect run of five stars films, like kubrick.
(everybody knows hudsucker's ace, right?).
i guess lebowski would be the least accessible (hence weakest) of the bunch.

huh?!
cruelty is the best rom-com of the decade.
(Hitch, of all things, is second)
let's see...
1) Clooney's introduction while getting his teeth whitened.
2) Let N.O.M.A.N. Put Asunder.
3) "You've called Wheezy Joe... Whaddaya want?'
