Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008)
Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves'
Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign,
Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the
Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered:
Cloverfield was a major success.

I'm already sick of this election being about perceived or pretended offense. I mean, you don't have to look any further than the comments section here to see how Bush is vilified absurdly for everything from funding the Nazis to causing the cyclone in Burma, and yet if you say anything against Clinton or Obama, the response is never substantive, it's just "I'm shocked, this is divisive, how dare he," yada yada. He dares because it's a frickin' election, debate it if you don't like it! But the Dems have taken the PC-sensitivity culture of the modern workplace and shoved it into politics, so now you get fired for creating a hostile environment in the election. It's supposed to be hostile! It's an election!
In this particular case it's obvious that Obama made a mistake identifying himself so firmly with the object of Bush's remarks. They were mainly aimed at Jimmy Carter, obviously, who was just in the ME claiming to have talked his way to a breakthrough (though nobody else thought he had) and, as usual, speaking of things presidents don;t do, he take every opportunity to snipe at Bush. So Bush was right to remind people how giving the store away to people like Hamas or Iran has never led to anything but getting fleeced, how the carrot and stick only works if you actually have a stick too, and Obama was foolish to identify himself with the desperation-fpr-a-deal mentality of too many previous administrations.

Right, Bush's comments had nothing at all to do with this election. Sure...
Meanwhile, McCain's people cry ageism when Obama correctly pointed out that McCain doesn't know the diffterence between Sunni and Shiite.

That's because people are unanimous on the Bush hate-even his few remaining supporters-while the only arguments conservatives can come up with against Hil and Barack are, "They're cowards and traitors who will give us a nanny state"-never mind that most of them are chicken-hawks who support leaders that do business with terrorist states and break surveillance laws.
"But the Dems have taken the PC-sensitivity culture of the modern workplace and shoved it into politics, so now you get fired for creating a hostile environment in the election. It's supposed to be hostile! It's an election!"
No, it's supposed to be dignified and representative of the democratic process. [I.E. exchange of ideas, not just name-calling.] The Republican-owned media is responsible for making the process hostile.
"In this particular case it's obvious that Obama made a mistake identifying himself so firmly with the object of Bush's remarks. They were mainly aimed at Jimmy Carter,"
Regardless of who they were aimed at, it was inappropriate to bring them up in the first place.
"So Bush was right to remind people how giving the store away to people like Hamas or Iran has never led to anything but getting fleeced,"
And yet Bush let the Palestinians vote for Hamas, and Reagan sold weapons to Iran for hostages.
"and Obama was foolish to identify himself with the desperation-fpr-a-deal mentality of too many previous administrations."
Yeah, peace with Egypt and Jordan is bad.
bb: "Obama is quickly becoming the politician that cried wolf. "
As opposed to the guy who lied about WMD, uranium from Niger, and weapons from Iran...
Bowen: "In one year, President Obama will go and talk to President Ahmadinejad."
Assuming there will still be an Iran, if Bush has his way.
dangovich: "Anyone who likens Iran to Nazi Germany is a fucking idiot."
That's nothing new for Bush.

So what are people who liken Bush's America to it?
Anyone who makes a blanket statement and says "end of story" as if that will prevent others from questioning is a fucking idiot. QED.

Probably accurate, given that his grandfather did business with them and tried to overthrow FDR, so that we'd all be speaking German.

It's true, D.Z.! I heard it on the INTERNET!
Republican - "As your political opponent, I disagree with many of your positions."
Democrat - "How DARE you accuse me of being unpatriotic!? Where are my smelling salts? I think I shall faint!"

If that were really the case than Keith "Please For The Love Of God Pay Attention To Me!" Olbermann would be locked in a 4 by 4 cell in Gitmo getting the soles of his feet beaten with cricket bats twice a day. (hmmmmm.... now there's an idea)
(Random Loony Lefty on television - "We can't speak out against this Nazi administration or we'll be severely punished by its Gestapo-like ways! Join me again tomorrow night and every night here on MSNBC.")

The FCC did one better by insuring that he's one of the few remaining leftist voices in the military industrial media.

What's sad is, THAT right there probably actually is what Obama thinks "talking tough" looks like. Nevermind that he's making the rookie mistake of responding as though directly-offended to a VEILED comment. The HELL is wrong with him? This sort of thing is why you're side has Michael Moore, you ninny - just like the other side has Coultergeist. You let THEM be all pissy about mudslinging from the sidelines, YOU don't respond unless they actually say you're name! OTHERWISE you look preemptively defensive!
