Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008)
Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves'
Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign,
Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the
Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered:
Cloverfield was a major success.

John McCain is the new Bob Dole. This is Obama's to lose.
From The Daily Dish:
"I had a moment last night when I realized something significant about the historic timing of the Democratic convention. The Democratic nominee (Obama) will give his acceptance speech on August 28, 2008 ... 45 years to the day of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech. The dream does, in fact, live on.
Know hope."

He's got so much baggage, but Newt is still the most dangerous and effective man left in the GOP arsenal. In 2012 he'll be 69, which is apparently just the right age to be the Republican nominee.

What Gingrich falls to comprehend is, given the racist attitudes of a good portion of the country, it will not be difficult to impugn Obama subtlely, with just oblique references to Rev. Wright.
What does Newt think the Republicans are going to do, mount a campaign that says, "Don't vote for Cleavon Little"?
I doubt it will work, but the Republicans with try to tar Obama somehow.

Anyone out there share my view that McCain might just be the man? This piece is persuasive.

I'm good friends with one of McCain's fellow Hanoi Hilton POWs, a guy that is a right as they come...and his support for McCain is soft. He'll vote for him, sure, but I can see in his eyes that his passion is at best muted. (My friend is conservative, yes, but not strident--he's hugely disappointed in Bush, as any true conservative should and would be.)
So, if people like that are soft on McCain support, think of the independents who'll peel away from the GOP and vote for Bob Barr or whomever (or just sit on their hands).

it's more like "tommy having sunshine blown up my butt".
stop smoking the funny cigarettes before you throw your hat in.
1. McCain is not a straight talker anymore. He has flip flopped on at least three of his big positions (do your research tommy)
2. He has endorsed torture via his punting to the White House. How can someone maimed from that very act condone it? He lost his cajones and will pander to the extreme wings of his party for 4 years.
3. He regularly receives felatio from a press so limp and scared to criticize him that it is reminding me all over again of the BS of a liberal press. NO ONE presses this guy on anything.
But let's not kid ourselves how low the PAC ads will be. Hell, he basically sat aside when he did not condemn the ads that came out against John Kerry - a fellow vet.
He should have read the riot act to these clowns and drove them out of the concention when they wore band-aids. Like him or not, Kerry is a decorated war vet just like McCain, but he sure lost his spine in coming out loudly for another vet - b/c it was good for him personally.
It's time to take apart the manufactured image of McCain.

Perhaps, but it won't work. People aren't going to fall for it the way they did for the homophobic angle in '04.Too much at stake right now.
tommy: RE: Article:
"Governor Paterson reported last week a $27.5 billion state budget deficit over the next fours years. Calling that number “insurmountable,” he warned that it could quickly grow higher. The shortfall is the result of lost Wall Street tax revenue, which has fueled New York’s growth for more than a century. Yet the other two candidates in the race are pledging to raise the capital gains and personal income tax rates. That is the last thing we need right now."
No tax revenue means another possible 9/11.
"Mr. McCain understands that growing American business, not the federal government, is the right answer for American families struggling with mortgages and rising food and fuel costs."
There *are* no growing American businesses right now.
"He reminds us of the days when one would “vote the candidate” and not just the party line. John McCain, in how he treats his colleagues across the aisle, brings that possibility back to American politics."
You mean curse at them or get into a hissy fit when he doesn't get his way?
