I have to get to a Sony Pictures Classics luncheon now. (Late for it actually.) I'll post some kind of reaction to Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York later this afternoon.
Synecdoche, New York costar Michelle Williams, director-writer Charlie Kaufman, costar Catherine Keener -- 5.23, 11:07 am.
Cast of Synecdoche, New York at this morning's press conference -- 5.23, 11:15 am
Catherine Keener looks fantastic and I second that about Michelle Williams except I just want to know how the 'HEATH LEDGER HEATH LEDGER TELL US ABOUT YOUR PAIN AND SUFFERING BECAUSE HE DIES BLAH BLAH' question will be tentatively phrased and by whom.A far more interesting prospect.
Just read McCarthy's review and "to paraphrase Karl Kraus: men who demand morality in women do so because they themselves lack it."
"Brilliance Needs Brevity" is code for "I don't get it."
"Kauffman had to explain how you pronounce the name of a poetic trope to a roomful of writers?" Who would take an American Indian word and name a town in upstate NY after it?
To paraphrase myself, McCarthy does not think Kaufman is one of those men. Americans Indians date back to Greek culture, don't they? They just hadn't been discovered yet, right? Nyack is probably Greek too.
What does the similarity with "Schenectady" has to do with a bunch of writers not knowing how to pronounce the damn word? (I get it's in the movie, but that's beside the point). And why is this so offensive Jeff delets my comment? Maybe he not only didn't know how to pronounce it, he didn't know what it meant either.

Let us know who asks Michelle Williams about Heath Ledger, making her cry and refuse to do any more press at Cannes.

Sometimes I feel like a good Synch Douche myself, but I keep thinking Dolche-stinker.

Dolcestinky is the story. Not that I don't want to see it. Cannes is dark, nothing wrong with that.
