I wish eFilmCritic allowed comments on this piece, because I would have noted that I find it quite hilarious. No, I don't WISH I could have done this, but it's interesting to see somebody else do it for me. Sorta like an out-of-body experience.
Eric might not have noticed the colorful banner beneath the piece that reads: "Feel Like Saying Something About This Article? Be Heard on The Message Board!", which itself links to our forum, where he can in face comment on the piece.
I don't think the IMDb is considered prestigious enough for them to bother weighting it too heavily (especially when the geeks have shown that they'll do it themselves). A studio would rather spend its money buying a quote from a film critic that they can put on the poster and in the ads. When was the last time an ad said "9.2 on IMDb user ratings!"?
"Ford leaves, Nazis come in. Weird guy with poker. Ford, apparently standing out in the cold all this time comes in just in time to whip the poker away from chick's face. Oh please."
Why doesn't Burma Shave, who as I understand it is not currently burdened by the demands of employment, drop the folks at Indiewire a line?
They probably need clueless interns and share his lack of knowledge of- and lack of interest in-cinema. It might also spare us from so many piss-poor postings.
I don't think IMDB is "rigged" as such, it's just a bunch of nerds jumping the gun and giving it 10 out of 10 without even seeing it. I mean, as I type it has almost 1500 votes, and I doubt that many members of the public, or ones who could be bothered rating a film on IMDB at least, have even seen it yet.
why is it just a "bunch of nerds" that are accused of jumping the gun...?
...what with the content volume shown in most trailers / previews, one almost feels that they've seen the film without actually seeing the film...
...and what's more is that more often than never (except if it's a baker's dozen) having seen the trailer / preview, is enough exposure to make an informed decision as to whether, or not, to invest one's time in the unabridged version...
...and all in the name of the 'ethical code of universal film critics' everywhere, except where prohibited, of course...
>>>
in my necessary defense, this is my first post (also last?) and i do not yet know how to institute line breaks...in addition to brevity and pertinence, among others...

That was pretty damn funny. Too bad the ending didn't occur at the screen of Crystal Skulls.

Cute idea, but only mildy amusing in the execution. Had the potential to be MUCH funnier, IMO

Looks like Paramount already got its people to artificially inflate the IMDB score to 9.2. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367882/

Most of the inflated geek scores usually go up to about 8; so you know this one was rigged.

It's not funny, because it's not a fraction as witty or well observed.

Transformers and 300 were both pushing 9 in the period just before their release.

Got off to a great start (especially if you know the film well) but then loses steam.
The actual Eric Kohn has apparently left a comment on the board now.

Bob: Transformers was probably rigged, too. Not sure about 300.
