"At critical junctures of her life, Hillary makes the same mistake," Maureen Dowd has written in today's (6.8) N.Y. Times. "She comes on strong, showing an arrogant, abrasive side, gets brushed back, and then repackages herself in a more appealing way.
"It happened when she began as Arkansas' first lady; when she campaigned with Bill in '92; when she started as a 'two for the price of one' first lady; when she did health care; and when she started her presidential campaign wearing an off-putting ermine robe of entitlement and presumption. And it happened when she lost the nomination, refused to admit it and, instead of congratulating Obama, wielded her female fan base as a bludgeon over him so she could once more share a presidency.
"Now, as she transforms herself into a team player, she must again fake it till she makes it. She still doesn't believe Obama can win, but she knows she can move ahead only as a beguiler, not a begrudger. Meanwhile, she wants another power-sharing arrangement. She will help Obama be king, if he lets her be queen of the women."

To be fair, Dowd is a bit of raving begrudger herself.
I think the overall piont is that Hilary feels that her tenacity is her finest quality, given where it's gotten her in life. She does, of course, need to chek that, both symbolically, but more important, in actuality.

Hilary is clearly pursuing a 2012 strategy. Expect her to give terse, playacting support to Obama, meanwhlie she and her surrogates (like the degenerate Geraldine Ferraro) will have "gaffes" and give chronic "mistatements" (if the so-called Wright "controversy" comes back I wouldn't be surprisd if it's Hilary's surrogates who revive it) that the media will pounce on and demand Obama give an explanation for.
So over the next five months I expect women, white males, Hispanics and Jews to be the target of Hilary-philes who will swear their undying support for Obama (I expect them to howl their adoration from the rooftops) then insult these crucial voter blocs in the hopes of undermining Barack's standing with them.
The active campaign to steal the nomination for Hilary is over, now the subversive campaign begins. Mark my words. That conniving shrew hasn't given up yet, and won't until November 3rd.
